The X-Men’s 52-Years Long Grudge Didn’t Start for the Reason You Think

Cyclops and Wolverine were fundamentally different. Cyclops was created and trained to be a dedicated mutant soldier by Charles Xavier, deeply committed to his team and protecting others. Wolverine, on the other hand, was a hardened loner, a killer who kept people at a distance due to his fear of losing them. He didn’t appreciate being directed by the younger, visor-wearing Cyclops. While many believe their rivalry stemmed from Wolverine’s feelings for Jean Grey, those familiar with the X-Men’s history know their conflict began much earlier, before any romantic feelings came into play.
