The newest poster for *Avatar: Fire and Ash* reveals the seven central characters who will be involved in a large-scale conflict on Pandora. The third *Avatar* film will continue the story after the events of *Avatar: The Way of Water*, particularly focusing on the impact of Neteyam’s death during the final battle. Although the humans were defeated for the time being, a new, dangerous Na’vi tribe – known as the Fire Na’vi and led by Oona Chaplin’s character, Varang – is poised to create problems for Jake Sully and his family.
James Cameron’s *Avatar: Fire and Ash* features returning stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, and Cliff Curtis. The film also introduces new cast members Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis. *Avatar: Fire and Ash* will be released in theaters on December 19, 2025.
Avatar 3: Fire & Ash’s 7 Main Characters
With the debut of a new trailer for *Avatar: Fire and Ash*, 20th Century Studios also revealed a striking poster. The poster features the film’s seven central characters – both heroes and villains – with Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully taking center stage.
Jake Sully
The next Avatar movie, Fire and Ash, will likely center on Jake Sully dealing with the loss of his oldest son and the emergence of a previously unknown tribe. These two events will drive the main storyline.
The latest trailer revealed that Avatar 3 will feature the return of the leonopteryx, the great winged creature. This means Jake Sully will once again become Toruk Makto – the rider of this creature – as he tries to rally all the Na’vi people to fight against the humans and the Resources Development Administration (RDA).
Neytiri
As a huge fan of the *Avatar* films, I was really affected by Neteyam’s death in *The Way of Water*, and you can *feel* Neytiri’s pain at the end. I’m expecting that grief to be a major part of her story in the next film, *Fire and Ash*. The trailers for *Avatar 3* definitely show a different side of Neytiri – she seems much more fierce and determined to protect her family. It looks like that protective instinct is going to put her on a collision course with the new villain, Varang, and I’m already anticipating an incredible showdown!
The latest trailer for *Avatar 3* revealed that Neytiri will be a key warrior in the conflict between the Fire Na’vi and the other Na’vi clans, and it looks like she’ll have to rely on both her physical power and her intelligence to succeed.
Colonel Quaritch
Colonel Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, is a truly frightening villain in the *Avatar* movies, and he’s coming back to cause trouble on Pandora in the next film, *Avatar: Fire and Ash*.
The newest trailer reveals that Colonel Quaritch is forming an unexpected alliance with Varang and the Fire Na’vi, in addition to planning another showdown with Jake Sully. This truce, arranged on behalf of the RDA, brings together two previously opposing villainous groups.
Now that *Avatar: The Way of Water* revealed that Quaritch is Spider’s father, it’s likely that *Avatar 3* will feature a difficult and emotional confrontation between them. This conflict could be deeply painful for both characters.
Kiri
In *Avatar: The Way of Water*, Kiri is presented as a significant character with a mysterious background. It’s revealed she was born from the Avatar of Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), making Grace her mother, but her father’s identity remains a secret that could be crucial to understanding her importance on Pandora.
Some fans believe Kiri’s father could actually be Eywa, the powerful spiritual force of Pandora, due to her deep connection with the planet’s creatures. If true, this would make Kiri incredibly important in the conflict between the Na’vi and the humans. The movie trailer suggests her powers are developing as she explores what she can do, and she might be key to helping Jake and his family defeat their enemies.
Varang
In *Avatar 3*, Oona Chaplin plays Varang, the leader of a new Na’vi tribe called the Mangkwan. This tribe is known for being aggressive and unpredictable, which will create significant challenges for Jake Sully and his family when they inevitably clash with them.
Varang’s connection to fire and ash, along with her tribe, the Mangkwan, suggests she possesses hidden and potentially deadly powers that could threaten the heroes of *Avatar*.
Spider
Spider, whose human name is Jack Champion, is the son of Colonel Quaritch. He’s a young man who finds himself stuck in the middle of the conflict between the human ‘Sky People’ and the Na’vi.
The new trailer revealed Spider-Man can breathe in the atmosphere of Pandora without his mask, suggesting humans might develop the same ability. This could be a threat to the Na’vi, as it would remove one of their key advantages over humans.
I’m really excited to see how Spider’s relationship with his dad plays out – it sounds like it’s going to be a pretty intense emotional journey for him. Plus, he’s finally going to meet the rest of the Metkayina tribe, including Tsireya, played by Bailey Bass, which should be fascinating. It’s great to see him expanding his world and connecting with new people.
Lo’ak
Britain Dalton, who plays Lo’ak, will be the narrator for the next *Avatar* movie, *Avatar: Fire and Ash*. Director James Cameron has confirmed Lo’ak will take over narration duties from Jake Sully, who narrated the first two films.
As a huge fan, I was really struck by Lo’ak’s role in the story. After his brother’s death, he really stepped up, not just looking after his siblings, but also trying to keep his parents from spiraling into revenge. It’s interesting that we didn’t see a ton of him in the trailers – I get the feeling the filmmakers are deliberately keeping his biggest contributions under wraps, and that he’s going to be absolutely vital when the big war kicks off in *Avatar 3*.
Who Else Is In Avatar 3?
In addition to the seven main characters, *Avatar: Fire and Ash* will feature several returning faces. Trinity Jo-Li Bliss will reprise her role as Tuk, Jake and Neytiri’s youngest daughter, and Cliff Curtis and Kate Winslet are set to return as Tonowari and Ronal, the leaders of the Metkayina tribe.
The cast includes Emmy winner CCH Pounder as Mo’at, Neytiri’s mother, and Joel David Moore reprising his role as Norm Spellman, Jake Sully’s friend. Several actors will play the returning antagonists from the Resources Development Administration (RDA), including Edie Falco as General Frances Ardmore, Jemaine Clement as Ian Garvin, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, and Brendan Cowell as Captain Mick Scoresby.
Duane Evans, Jr. and Bailey Bass will reprise their roles as Rotxo and Tsireya, both members of the Metkayina tribe. Filip Geljo is also returning as Aonung, a skilled free diver from the same tribe.
Even though Neteyam died in *Avatar: The Way of Water*, Jamie Flatters will return to play the character, likely through flashbacks or visions.
David Thewlis will appear in *Avatar: Fire and Ash* as Peylak, the leader of the Na’vi Wind tribe, known as the Tlalim.
