Excluding films not released in Hollywood like Demon Slayer and Ne Zha 2, Avatar: Fire and Ash is currently on track to become one of the top 5 highest-grossing movies. It’s likely to reach this milestone this weekend, and could even surpass $1 billion worldwide. Experts predict the film will remain a box office leader for weeks to come, well into the new year.
Avatar’s Future Rests on Fire and Ash’s Success
James Cameron has talked about making five Avatar movies, with plans currently in place for releases in 2029 and 2031. However, the future of the series isn’t guaranteed. While the second and third films were shot relatively close together, they’ve only filmed a small portion of the fourth Avatar movie so far. Ultimately, whether the remaining films get made depends on how well the third movie performs.
James Cameron recently hinted at a surprising move: if the next two Avatar movies aren’t made, he’ll publicly share the planned storylines.
