A fresh sneak peek for the upcoming movie, Avatar: Fire & Ash, hints at an uneasy bond between Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and his son Spider (Jack Champion). This intriguing image was shared by Empire Magazine, accompanied by a snippet of Lang’s interview discussing this new chapter in Quaritch’s life. Since the franchise began in 2009, Quaritch has symbolized humanity’s darkest instincts on Pandora, but the follow-up, Avatar: The Way of Water, took the colonel on an unforeseen journey. In the third installment, due for release on December 19th, these two characters will supposedly spend more time together, yet their connection might not be in their best interests or for the health of their relationship, as suggested by Lang’s comments.
The actor explained that their relationship was formed due to necessity,” he said. “It’s not a solitary bond; there are instances where they all unite on some scale. However, when adversaries work together, be prepared for deceit as it may lurk nearby.
In the film Avatar, it appeared that Quaritch met his demise; however, the sequel The Way of Water introduced an innovative idea called “Recombinants” – the consciousness of a deceased human transferred permanently into a Na’vi avatar body. Revived in this form, a reborn version of Quaritch returned to Pandora under the control of Earth’s Resources Development Administration (RDA) with plans for colonization. Unbeknownst to him, he had a living son named Spider who was part of the Na’vi and surviving human scientists. Throughout the movie, they clashed, but in the end, Spider bravely rescued Quaritch from drowning before reuniting with the Na’vi once more.
In simpler terms, “Spider perplexes Quaritch,” Lang continued. “However, Quaritch yearns for understanding. There’s something about Spider that Quaritch seems to appreciate in an unusual way – not a feeling typically attributed to him. I believe that respect, admiration, as well as hostility and manipulation, grow significantly between them, along with complications. The bond between them will become stronger – for better or worse.
Avatar: Fire & Ash
The sequel, Avatar: Fire & Ash, carries on the tale of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), as they endeavor to establish harmony between Pandora’s Na’vi tribe and humanity. The story will delve deeper into the moon’s rich culture and diverse landscapes. Since Stephen Lang is returning as Spider, it seems plausible that there won’t be a significant time leap like the 16-year gap between Avatar and The Way of Water.
Director James Cameron hinted that this movie will challenge the Na’vi to take more drastic actions for self-preservation, which may lead to questionable moral choices within the franchise, potentially adding depth and complexity to the storyline.
Further information about the highly anticipated third installment, titled “Avatar: Fire & Ash“, will be revealed in the upcoming months prior to its release on December 19th in American theaters.
