Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Announces Long-Requested Third-Person Mode

The upcoming update for Ubisoft’s game, “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora,” promises significant changes that will dramatically alter the gaming experience. Despite having only two films in the Avatar series, it has become one of the most successful film franchises due to its exceptional storytelling, groundbreaking technology use, and more. The 2009 movie release saw Ubisoft create an Avatar video game, but it didn’t fare well. However, with “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora,” they have a second opportunity to immerse players in the captivating world envisioned by James Cameron.

Despite facing criticism for being a first-person shooter rather than a third-person game, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was designed to offer a more immersive experience by adopting this perspective. This approach allowed players to appreciate the beauty of Pandora intimately and closely resembled some aspects of Far Cry. However, it’s important to note that gameplay between the two titles is quite distinct. The developers at Ubisoft acknowledged the feedback regarding a third-person view and seem to be addressing it in their approach to the game.

Before the unveiling of the trailer for “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” the upcoming third Avatar movie, Ubisoft has disclosed that there will be a substantial new update for “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” in December. This update introduces a New Game+ mode where all your skills and weapons transfer to a fresh save file, along with a new skill tree and equipment. Furthermore, Ubisoft has been fine-tuning a third-person mode for the game, enabling players to switch viewpoints as desired. Since this significantly alters the gaming experience, Ubisoft is adjusting the animations and controls to ensure the game remains enjoyable in third-person perspective.

A number of games have incorporated this feature. For instance, Grand Theft Auto V introduced a first-person perspective in its Xbox One, PS4, and PC editions, which was successful enough to be carried over to Red Dead Redemption 2. Similarly, Resident Evil Requiem will enable players to switch between first and third-person views, offering flexibility for players to choose their preferred playstyle. This seems like a considerable undertaking, but it undoubtedly allows the developers to cater to various types of gamers.

On December 5th, the latest update for “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” is set to drop, with “Avatar: Fire and Ash” releasing shortly thereafter. There’s talk about a potential “director’s cut” edition of “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora,” but it remains uncertain whether this update will be included in that version or if the director’s cut is still under development.
