Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender received exciting news late last year: a new 2D fighting game called Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is in development. This game, separate from the Avatar Legends tabletop RPG, will allow players to battle as their favorite characters, combining traditional fighting game controls with the bending powers from the Avatar universe. A limited number of players will soon have the chance to play it early.
Okay, so we’re still waiting on a release date for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which is kinda frustrating, but the developers at Gameplay Group International are doing a great job keeping us hyped! They’ve been dropping awesome gameplay trailers featuring all our favorite characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Just recently, I got to see Toph, the absolute best Earthbender, kicking butt in a new trailer. And the even better news? They’re finally letting us play it! After a small alpha test, they’ve announced a global playtest, so anyone around the world can jump in and try it out. If you want to be one of the first to bend some elements and fight, now’s your chance!

Fans of The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are already excited about Avatar Legends, a new game that looks fantastic. It features beautiful 2D animation inspired by classic fighting games and stays true to the original series’ character designs. The game will launch with 12 playable characters, and the developers plan to add more through seasonal updates. Beyond player-versus-player battles, Avatar Legends will also include a story-driven single-player campaign, which will be a welcome addition for those who enjoy a good narrative.
We’ve already gotten glimpses of Aang and Toph in action through their trailers. Plus, popular characters like Zuko, Katara, and Korra have been shown in gameplay and early playtests. Players who participated in the initial, small-scale alpha test gave positive feedback, even though the game was still under development. Now, a larger, worldwide playtest is starting soon, and you can register to play as your favorite Avatar character. This time around, Toph is a playable character, and you can see her gameplay for the first time below.
A closed alpha test for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will run from February 27th to March 1st, and will only be accessible through Steam. Interested players can sign up using a Google Form that asks for some basic information like age and location. You’ll also need to join the game’s official Discord server to share your feedback during the test. The sign-up period ends on February 20th, and those selected to participate will be notified by email.
Players shared footage of the recent closed beta on platforms like Twitch. If you’re curious about what to expect in this larger alpha test, you can watch some gameplay videos of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game on Twitch to get a feel for the game.
