In the world of Avatar, animal companions have become an integral part of the storyline. For instance, Aang had his Sky Bison named Appa and Winged Lemur called Momo; Korra partnered with Nagga, a Polar Bear Dog; and it appears that the latest Avatar is forming a bond with some type of cat as depicted in the teaser artwork for the Avatar: Seven Havens series.
It isn’t evident why each Avatar travels with an animal companion, but it seems to help them overcome travel challenges and provide emotional support as they embark on their adventures. In “The Last Airbender,” Appa played a crucial role by serving as the primary mode of transportation for the group during the narrative. His abduction was a significant period of development for Aang, who had to confront the anger and fear that arose from losing his trusted friend.
What Is the New Avatar’s Companion Animal?

Based on a sneak peek image from SDCC 2025, shared by Variety on social media, it seems the new Avatar’s sidekick resembles a mix of a monkey and a big, fluffy feline. The primary character appears to be approximately nine or ten years old, and it looks like this companion animal is also quite young, retaining a kitten-like facial appearance.
In the world of Avatar: Seven Havens, there’s a unique feline character that stands out with its distinctive features. It sports a long-banded tail devoid of extra fur, contrasting sharply with its fluffy ruff around the head and neck, resembling either a Maine Coon or a desert sand cat. Its paws are not like those of an ordinary housecat; instead, they have a strong, grasping digit similar to that of large apes, and long toes that don’t bear obvious claws. The Avatar series is renowned for blending familiar animal traits, as seen in the Polar Bear Dogs. This particular cat could be described as a Money Cat-Ape Lynx hybrid or some other intriguing mix of two diverse species.

Currently, it’s unclear what unique talents this new pet might possess. Typically, a companion’s skills align with the bending style of its human partner. Since this unusual feline is an Earthbender, it may exhibit manipulation abilities or have extraordinary vision to navigate through caves and tunnels.
It’s likely that we’ll uncover additional details about the mysterious creature in upcoming previews of “Avatar: Seven Havens,” which should further fuel anticipation for the next installment in this popular franchise.
