Thanos star Josh Brolin has revealed who he could have played in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise.
In the year 2009, Cameron’s blockbuster film ‘Avatar’, which was a massive success worldwide, hit the screens in U.S. cinemas. The film features Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, and Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch. A follow-up, titled ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, came out in 2022, with the third installment, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, set to release later this year.
In the upcoming days, Brolin can be found gracing the screens of Zach Cregger’s Weapons, now playing in U.S. cinemas. Furthermore, later this year, he will feature in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 3, also known as Wake Up Dead Man, and Edgar Wright’s The Running Man. Additionally, Brolin is slated to star in The Dog Stars and Whalefall, both scheduled for release in 2026.
What Avatar character did Josh Brolin turn down?
Initially, there were reports suggesting that Brolin declined the role in Avatar: The Way of Water. But during an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor clarified that he had the opportunity to appear in both the original Avatar film and its sequel.
As a cinephile, I found myself in the running for Lang’s role, yet eventually decided against it.
He expressed great joy for [Lang], stating, “He’s simply fantastic in his role! It all unfolded perfectly as it ought to.
In the upcoming film “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” set to release on December 19, 2025, Lang makes his comeback. This production also features Sigourney Weaver, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. The screenplay is written by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver.
