Avatar: The Last Airbender Announces New Spin-Off Featuring Aang And Katara’s Daughter

2026 will be an exciting year for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender. A new series on Paramount+ will continue the story with an adult Aang and his friends, filling in the gaps between the original show and The Legend of Korra. This series, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, promises to show battles that were never previously revealed. Plus, a spin-off focusing on Aang and Katara’s daughter is also coming later in the year, alongside the already-announced sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens.

The animated series The Legend of Korra showed that Aang and Katara eventually married and had three children: Tenzin, an airbender; Bumi, who doesn’t bend any element; and Kya, a waterbender. A new graphic novel, The Legend of Korra: Kya And The Secret of the Sand, will explore Kya’s younger years. While it won’t feature a massive, world-threatening crisis, the story will focus on Kya’s personal struggles alongside a challenge she faces in the Earth Kingdom. Written by Kiku Hughes and illustrated by Alexandria Monik, the graphic novel is scheduled to be released on July 28th.

The Legend of Kya

Dark Horse Comics also shared details about the upcoming story, which centers on Kya. While helping Korra recover, Kya recounts a personal experience from her youth when she felt lost and disconnected. The story takes place when a young and inexperienced Kya left home to find her place in the world. She traveled to the Si Wong Desert, hoping to use her skills to aid those in need. Arriving in the town of Liyuan, Kya intended to teach healing and help protect the community from bandits, but she soon discovered that the scars of past conflicts were deeply ingrained and proving difficult to overcome.

Fans can look forward to seeing Aang and his friends in a new full-length movie later this year. But the story doesn’t end there! A new series called Seven Havens will introduce a new Avatar following Korra’s journey. This show will be different from anything seen before in the Avatar universe, taking place in a post-apocalyptic world. Although a release date hasn’t been officially announced, rumors suggest the new Avatar’s story could begin in 2027. Similar to Avatar: The Last Airbender, this series is expected to be an animated show streaming on Paramount+.
