A new fighting game based on the world of *Avatar: The Last Airbender* is currently being developed. Twenty years ago, Nickelodeon released *Avatar: The Last Airbender*, which is widely considered one of the best cartoons of its time. The show was celebrated for telling complex stories in a way that was still enjoyable for kids, and it wasn’t afraid to explore serious themes. This combination of depth and accessibility has allowed *Avatar* to remain popular with both longtime fans and new viewers discovering it through streaming.
The world of Avatar is expanding with new shows and a movie planned for 2026. Many fans are eager for a large-scale, high-quality video game set in the Avatar universe, but so far, none have truly captured the magic. Previous Avatar games have been smaller in scope and haven’t fully utilized the rich world created over the past two decades. Fortunately, a new Avatar game is in development and appears promising.
New Avatar Fighting Game Releasing Next Year
A new fighting game based on *Avatar: The Last Airbender*, currently called *Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game*, is coming in Summer 2026. The game will launch with 12 playable characters, including fan favorites like Korra, Aang, and Zuko. It will feature a unique story mode, challenges to master combos, and a beautiful 2D animation style inspired by the original animated series. Developers plan to add even more characters through updates released seasonally.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, recently announced at NYCC 2026, is the first fighting game based on the Avatar universe! It’s scheduled for release in Summer 2026 on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. You can add it to your wishlist now. Rating is still pending.

The fighting game *Avatar Legends* is scheduled to launch next summer on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam. We expect to learn more details about the game early next year. Developed by Gameplay Group International – a new studio focused on bringing cancelled games back to life – *Avatar Legends* looks promising and hopefully will attract a dedicated fanbase.
We don’t know if plans for *Avatar Legends* existed previously and were cancelled, or if this is a brand new project from the studio. Regardless, it should be a fantastic addition alongside the new *Avatar* movie coming out next year.
