Marvel’s highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in 2026, aims to be as impactful as Avengers: Endgame. Directed by the Russo Brothers, who previously helmed successful Avengers films, this fifth installment will unite heroes from both the Infinity and Multiverse sagas. While it faces the challenge of tying up loose ends from the Multiverse Saga, early looks at the film suggest it will deliver a satisfying experience for fans.
Although the marketing team for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie has been secretive, some production photos have given fans a glimpse of what they can expect when it hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
Avengers: Doomsday Images & What They Reveal About the MCU’s 2026 Film
Official Poster

The first official look at Avengers: Doomsday came with the movie’s poster. Similar to previous Avengers films, it featured the team’s ‘A’ logo, but this time it was a spooky green and set against a stained-glass backdrop – likely hinting at the arrival of Doctor Doom and including a few hidden references to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Chairs

Marvel fans will always remember the exciting livestream event that unveiled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. Over several hours, each actor’s name was announced as a chair was revealed. The biggest surprise came last: a photo officially confirmed Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Victor von Doom in the next Avengers movie.
First Look at New Avengers Costumes

Fans recently got a first look at the characters in the upcoming 2026 movie, Avengers: Doomsday, through official merchandise. A display featuring over twenty characters showed off new looks, including hairstyles and costumes, and confirmed the return of several beloved heroes.

Another picture from the Futures Festival event at Pinewood Studios showed the same artwork, revealing 28 key characters – both heroes and villains – who will appear in the next Avengers film.
Doctor Doom Revealed

Although Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom was heavily promoted for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel hasn’t featured him in the movie’s official trailers yet. That will change soon, as images of Doctor Doom’s costume and appearance have already leaked online, suggesting he’ll be a major focus in future marketing materials.
The costume of the Marvel villain includes hidden details and suggests Robert Downey Jr. will deliver another striking performance, building on his fame as the original Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Steve Rogers’ Return

Late last year, before the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the first of several preview clips for Avengers: Doomsday was shown. This initial clip included the exciting news that Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Okay, so Avengers: Endgame wrapped up Captain America’s story in a really interesting way. He went back in time to put the Infinity Stones back where they belonged, but the very last scene left me wondering… it strongly suggested he didn’t just drop them off and return! It seemed like he actually lived out a full life with Peggy Carter, the one he missed out on because he was frozen in ice all those years. It was a sweet, if a little mind-bending, ending to his arc.

Viewers will likely witness the consequences of this altered life path within the movie Avengers: Doomsday. The preview revealed that Steve Rogers’ Captain America costume is no longer in use, and this change has a meaningful explanation.

The reason becomes clear just moments later when Rogers lifts a baby from its crib, revealing he’s chosen to leave his life as a superhero behind and become a devoted father.
Thor’s Prayer

Steve Rogers isn’t the only Avenger experiencing fatherhood in the new movie, Avengers: Doomsday. Thor’s adopted daughter, Love – who first appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder – is also back, and her well-being drives much of his heroic action.

After the lighthearted events of Thor 4, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is shown in a more serious scene in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. He walks into a forest to pray to his father, asking for strength to defeat another enemy so he can finally be with his child.

The trailer showed Thor will have the shorter hairstyle he sported in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.
The X-Men Are Back

The trailer for Avengers: Doomsday included a surprising reveal: the names of actors from the old X-Men movies. This confirmed rumors that characters from the X-Men films would finally appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios clearly wanted to highlight the return of these classic heroes, making the crossover a central focus of the film’s promotion.
As a huge fan, I was thrilled to see both Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto in the teaser! It was amazing to see them both looking older, but still sharing that familiar bond – even clasping hands like old friends. It really hinted at a complex relationship and a potentially powerful story.

In the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, the heroes will confront an enormous threat. As Magneto foreshadows, the real challenge isn’t avoiding death, but facing it with courage and remaining true to yourself until the very end: “Death comes for us all… the question isn’t are you prepared to die, the question is: who will you be when you close your eyes?”

The trailer ended with a glimpse of James Marsden returning as Cyclops, showcasing his signature ability to unleash a strong energy blast from his eyes.

Fans are even more thrilled about the upcoming X-Men reunion – their first since X-Men: Days of Future Past – now that we’ve seen the team in updated costumes that closely resemble their comic book appearances.
Familiar Heroes, Unlikely Team-Ups

The last of the first trailers for Avengers: Doomsday officially announced the return of three important teams from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
First, the story reintroduces the Talokans, a people led by Namor (played by Tenoch Huerta). We see him sitting on a throne in a desert – a stark contrast to their usual underwater home.

The furious Namor is joined by his trusted advisor, Namora (Mabel Cadena), who uses a rebreather to allow her to breathe easily on land.

The people of Talokan join forces with the Wakandans in the trailer. Letitia Wright returns as Shuri, now taking on the mantle of the Black Panther, following the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This is Shuri’s first appearance as the Avengers’ Black Panther, and she’s shown bravely leading the Wakandans across a dry, desert landscape.

Following Shuri’s decision to explore the world and pause her role as the Black Panther, M’Baku (Winston Duke) has become the new King of Wakanda. The trailer shows King M’Baku meeting a surprising new partner.

The trailer revealed a surprise appearance by Ben Grimm, also known as the Thing, from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. As the newest heroes joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four will encounter the Avengers and other established heroes for the first time in Avengers: Doomsday. Ben’s appearance alone suggests he might be working separately from his Fantastic Four teammates, which could lead to exciting partnerships with other heroes.
Even though Avengers: Doomsday isn’t out for months, and we’ve seen a few glimpses of what’s in store, Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed much about the big 2026 film yet.
