Avengers: Doomsday Confirmed to Feature 5 Superheroes Who Are Now Parents

The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is highlighting how many of Marvel’s heroes now have children. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has often included family relationships in its biggest stories – think of Odin’s complicated relationship with Thor and Loki, Aunt May’s influence on Peter Parker, or even the darker side of fatherhood with Thanos and his adopted daughters, Gamora and Nebula, and Ego’s role as Peter Quill’s father.

I’m so excited for the next Avengers movie! It looks like Avengers 5 is going to be really interesting – a lot of our heroes are now parents, and they’re trying to juggle that with saving the world. It’s called Doomsday and is coming out December 16, 2026. From what I’ve heard, it’s going to be huge, bringing together the Avengers, the heroes of Wakanda, the X-Men, and possibly even Spider-Man! It sounds like it’s going to be an epic, universe-altering battle just in time for Christmas next year.

Robert Downey Jr. is playing the main villain, Victor von Doom, making his return to an Avengers film after his iconic role as Tony Stark. While Tony Stark’s actions in Endgame were largely motivated by protecting his daughter, Morgan, Doom’s motivations will be different. However, the importance of family will still be a key theme. The movie will feature several heroes who are also parents, but the story will specifically focus on the parental roles of just two of them.

Avengers: Doomsday’s 5 Superhero Parents

Sue Storm

Sue Storm, played by Vanessa Kirby, grows from a fresh face in the superhero world into a vital mother figure, which is key to what happens in Avengers: Doomsday.

In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Sue Storm demonstrated incredible strength as a mother. When Galactus threatened to destroy Earth unless their son Franklin was given up, Sue was much more resolute than Reed in protecting him.

In Doomsday, Franklin Richards appears as a young child, roughly between five and seven years old. Sue Storm, his mother and a key member of the Fantastic Four, faces the challenge of protecting him, as he may be vital to saving the entire Multiverse. Promotional materials show Franklin with a new blue costume and longer hair, suggesting he’ll have a significant role in the story.

There’s talk that Doom might attempt to use Franklin’s ability to alter reality to close the dangerous incursions and position himself as a hero. This would place Sue right in the heart of the movie’s main struggle.

Reed Richards

Pedro Pascal joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards, taking on the role of the top scientist and a worried father trying to help his child control abilities he doesn’t quite grasp in Avengers: Doomsday.

In First Steps, Reed Richards went to great lengths to protect Franklin, anticipating dangers like Galactus. This protective nature, combined with Reed’s relentless scientific drive, will likely drive the plot of Doomsday as Franklin’s powers begin to develop at an astonishing rate, exceeding anything his parents have witnessed before.

Franklin Richards has incredible, reality-bending powers that haven’t been fully shown in the movies yet, but comic book fans know he’s a key character in the Secret Wars storyline. A major emotional focus for Reed Richards in the film could be watching his son’s powers develop and worrying about how Doctor Doom might try to take advantage of them.

Ant-Man

Paul Rudd is back as Scott Lang in Avengers: Doomsday, playing one of the MCU’s most seasoned, but often underestimated, heroes. While it’s still unknown if his daughter, Cassie Lang (played by Kathryn Newton), will be in the film—especially with rumors of a Young Avengers project—Scott is definitely returning to action.

Since his first appearance in Ant-Man (2015), Scott Lang’s story has always revolved around his daughter, Cassie. He even spent five years away from her during the Blip in Avengers: Endgame. Their connection has been the driving force behind most of his decisions.

Scott’s experience battling a Multiverse-threatening villain makes him a valuable asset in Doomsday, even if his part in the story is different from what was originally intended for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Red Guardian

David Harbour will reprise his role as Alexei Shostakov, also known as the Red Guardian, in Avengers: Doomsday. He’s portrayed as a complicated father figure to both Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), having raised them as his adopted daughters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For years, Alexei pretended to be an American father as part of a secret mission. When the mission concluded, he vanished, and his daughters were forced back into the Red Room. He began to repair their fractured relationship in Black Widow, but made even more progress in Thunderbolts, particularly with Yelena. Their intense conversation in that film finally forced Alexei to acknowledge the hurt he inflicted, and Yelena finally allowed herself to accept the fatherly comfort she’d always longed for.

Now that Yelena is essentially leading the New Avengers and is poised to play a significant role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Alexei goes into the events of Doomsday not just as a super-powered soldier, but also as a father figure still trying to protect her, something he didn’t fully do when she was growing up.

US Agent

Wyatt Russell returns as John Walker in Avengers: Doomsday, a character haunted by his difficult history as both a soldier and a parent. Thunderbolts showed that his personal life, specifically his relationship with his wife and son, had fallen apart, leaving him feeling ashamed and full of regret.

Walker’s story isn’t just about being a hero; it’s a personal journey of redemption – he’s trying to make amends as a soldier, a husband, and a father. Though he often appears strong and unfeeling, moments of weakness reveal how much he values his family and doing what’s right. Interestingly, the actor who plays Walker, Kurt Russell, previously portrayed a father figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the character Ego.

Thor

This is the first time Thor has been portrayed as a father in an Avengers movie. He takes on the responsibility of caring for Gorr’s daughter, Love, whose death originally fueled Gorr’s quest for revenge.

After Jane Foster’s passing in Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor finds new purpose by taking on a protégé known as Love, who is essentially a being born from cosmic forces. Together, they form a formidable duo – Love wielding Stormbreaker and Thor continuing with Mjolnir – dedicated to safeguarding the galaxy as a powerful team.

Chris Hemsworth’s daughter, India, appears as the character Love in the film, but it’s currently unknown if she’ll also be featured alongside him in Doomsday.
