The planned release of Avengers: Doomsday appears to fit within the established timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially considering another big movie scheduled for 2026. The MCU timeline isn’t always straightforward – some films, like Eternals, explore events in the past, while others jump ahead to the future. Currently, the timeline within the MCU is a few years ahead of our own, a result of the significant time jump in Avengers: Endgame. This forward movement continues with Marvel’s upcoming releases in 2026.
The initial details for the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, reveal that it’s set four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since No Way Home happened in 2024, following Far From Home (where Peter Parker’s identity was exposed), the new film will likely take place around 2028.
The next Avengers movie, potentially titled Avengers: Doomsday, will likely be set around 2028. While Marvel hasn’t officially announced the timeline, the story seems to be a direct continuation of the Thunderbolts film. Thunderbolts, originally taking place in 2027 after Captain America: Brave New World, included a time jump of 14 months, pushing the final events to late 2028 or early 2029.

The scene shown after the credits of Thunderbolts actually came from Avengers: Doomsday. It was filmed while Avengers: Doomsday was being made, not during the production of Thunderbolts.
Given the events in Thunderbolts, Avengers: Doomsday will probably begin about 14 months later. This means Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers 5 are expected to happen around the same period.
The Russo Brothers are directing the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the next Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, titled Brand New Day, and it’s coming out on July 31, 2026.
Why Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4 Happening Simultaneously Makes Sense

The story in Spider-Man: Brand New Day jumps ahead in time, skipping over much of Peter Parker’s college experience. It’s notable that the story could have taken place at any point during those college years, but choosing 2028 as the setting feels deliberate and might connect to events in Avengers: Doomsday.
Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo weren’t in the movie Avengers: Doomsday, and this is likely the reason why. Neither actor appeared on the official list of cast members, even though Ruffalo is set to play the Hulk again in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.
It’s unexpected to see these two prominent Avengers missing, but their involvement in the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day could explain why they aren’t present.
Because Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set in 2028, it will happen after the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and The Punisher special. The Punisher special appears to take place around 2026 or 2027, and is scheduled to be released around the same time as Brand New Day.
As a huge fan of Jon Bernthal’s take on the Punisher, I’m incredibly excited to hear that Frank Castle will definitely be showing up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day! It’s great news because it seems like Marvel is finally connecting all the dots – this later timeline for the movie will help make sense of his appearances in Daredevil: Born Again, that Punisher special, and even set things up for Spider-Man 4. It’s a relief to know they’re building a cohesive universe for the character.
As a huge Marvel fan, I think releasing Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside what’s happening in Doomsday is a really smart move. It feels like perfect setup for Avengers 5 in 2026! Avengers 5 already sounds amazing, but we still need to see how everything connects with the rest of the Multiverse Saga, and this helps build that anticipation and lay the groundwork.
Even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a complex story, its plot and ending could hint at elements from Avengers: Doomsday, or even establish Spider-Man and Hulk’s future roles in Avengers: Secret Wars. This would create a stronger connection between these Marvel Cinematic Universe films and motivate viewers to watch both.
