Avengers: Doomsday Promo Video Omits 7 Major MCU Groups

More than six prominent hero teams weren’t featured in the latest promotional material for Marvel Studios’ *Avengers: Doomsday*. The movie is expected to have the largest cast of any Marvel Cinematic Universe film, telling a story with potentially universe-altering consequences. Even though filming on the Phase 6 sequel is still underway, it’s unclear exactly who will appear.

At a recent event in Shanghai, Marvel Studios presented a spectacular light show featuring the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. The show focused on four key teams that will appear in the movie: the Wakandans, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the Avengers. While these groups – along with the villain Doctor Doom – are central to the story, fans believe Marvel hasn’t announced everyone who will be in the film, which isn’t scheduled to release for over a year.

Every Group Missing From Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Promo

Eternals

The 2021 film *Eternals* introduced ten new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, and others, but received a somewhat mixed response from critics. By the end of the movie, four of the Eternals had died, and the remaining members were separated – some left on the Domo spaceship, while others faced judgment from Arishem.

Currently, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced any plans to bring the Eternals back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including appearances in the next two Avengers movies. However, many fans are hoping to see these characters return, as their stories have a lot of potential for future development within the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, released in 2023, was a critical and fan favorite, marking the end of the team’s story as they knew it. While some members remained to build a new version of the Guardians, others decided to pursue different adventures.

It became uncertain whether the Guardians of the Galaxy would appear in the *Doomsday* project when James Gunn moved from Marvel to lead DC Studios. Although Gunn isn’t the only director who’s worked with the team, their most recent film felt like a definitive ending to their story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While they *could* still be included in *Doomsday*, it’s likely their story has already concluded and they’ll remain part of Marvel’s past.

Spider-Man

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man played a key role in the recent *Avengers* films and starred in *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, which was the highest-grossing solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s currently filming his fourth Spider-Man movie, *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, which is set to be released in theaters before the upcoming *Doomsday* film.

It was surprising to see Spider-Man left out of the cast of *Doomsday*, considering how popular he is within Marvel Studios. Although there was talk he’d have a significant part in the new movie for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Tom Holland’s name hasn’t appeared on the official cast list or in any of the promotional materials released so far.

The Marvels

In 2023, Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani starred in *The Marvels*. The team-Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel-successfully battled Dar-Benn, the leader of the Kree, and closed a tear that was disrupting the multiverse. However, the victory came at a cost: Monica Rambeau found herself stranded in another universe, while Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan stayed behind on their home Earth (Earth-616).

As a huge Marvel fan, it feels like Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau are practically *made* to be in the next Avengers movie, *Doomsday*. Captain Marvel is incredibly powerful, and Ms. Marvel’s bangles could easily become a key plot device. But the biggest thing for me is Monica – she’s already sharing a universe with Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who we *know* is going to be in *Avengers 5*. Honestly, I’d be seriously surprised if we *don’t* see at least one of these three heroes show up in *Doomsday*. It just makes too much sense!

Magic Users

Magic officially entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the 2016 film *Doctor Strange*, quickly becoming a major part of the larger story. Throughout the Multiverse Saga, characters like Doctor Strange, Wanda Maximoff, and Agatha Harkness have demonstrated impressive magical abilities and played key roles in many storylines.

While no magical characters are officially confirmed for the *Doomsday* movie, Benedict Cumberbatch has hinted he might appear in both *Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*. Given the Avengers will need all the help they can get, and magic users have played a key role in the Multiverse Saga so far, it’s likely we’ll see them involved when Doctor Doom carries out his plan.

Defenders

Okay, so it’s official – the Defenders are *totally* part of the main Marvel Cinematic Universe now! As a huge movie buff, I’m thrilled. That means Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all exist in the same world as the Avengers and all the other big teams. The best part? Daredevil and Jessica Jones are either already back or heading that way, and everyone’s hoping Luke Cage and Iron Fist get the same treatment soon. It’s a really exciting time to be a Marvel fan!

Despite fan speculation, none of these heroes are currently expected to appear in the next *Doomsday* movie. While rumors surfaced in December 2024 suggesting Courtney Cox might be involved, she quickly denied them. There’s also been no indication any of these characters will be in *Avengers 5*. Given the large scope of that film, it might be challenging to give the Defenders a substantial role, but fans are still hoping they’ll get the opportunity to join the action.

Young Avengers

While the Young Avengers haven’t had their official team debut yet, several members are already key players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Throughout the Multiverse Saga, we’ve seen characters like America Chavez, Cassie Lang, Ironheart, the Maximoff twins, Kate Bishop, and Ms. Marvel appearing in both movies and TV series.

Currently, none of the Young Avengers have been officially announced to appear in the *Doomsday* movie. While the team was hinted at in *The Marvels*, they haven’t yet formed within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many fans are hoping to see these young heroes team up with the Avengers to battle future threats, but as of now, they are still waiting in the wings.

Bonus: New Avengers

The New Avengers are the latest team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They came together at the end of the movie *Thunderbolts* in 2025. This team, consisting of the heroes and antiheroes from that film (excluding the late Taskmaster), was publicly revealed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Val, after they successfully defeated The Void, turning them into unexpected public figures.

Although the New Avengers weren’t featured in the recent Marvel promotional display, the team’s inclusion in the cast of *Doomsday* was announced back in March 2025. This suggests they might join the main Avengers team, which will likely be led by Anthony Mackie as Captain America. Either way, fans can rest assured that the New Avengers will definitely be part of *Doomsday*.
