There’s talk that Marvel Studios might push back the release date of Avengers: Doomsday. A recent industry report suggests they’re rethinking the current plan to release the film on December 18, 2026, due to worries about competing movies and getting enough IMAX screens.
‘Dunesday could be over,’ according to latest Avengers: Doomsday rumor
A potential showdown at the box office between ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Dune 3’ might not happen after all. Recent reports indicate Marvel is considering moving the release date of its film. Currently, both movies are scheduled to come out on the same day, which would create competition for the best theaters and moviegoers during the busy holiday season.
In a recent YouTube video, industry analyst John Campea talked about discussions happening in Hollywood regarding a possible shift in release strategies. He highlighted the example of Jumanji 4, which recently moved its release date from December, creating an opening for another film.
Campea explained that Dune 3 was taking over all the IMAX screens, meaning Avengers: Doomsday wouldn’t get any. Dune 3 had a three-week period where it would be shown exclusively in IMAX, and, jokingly referencing the ‘Soup Nazi’ from Seinfeld, Campea said Avengers: Doomsday would be left out.
Now that an earlier December date is available, a source familiar with the industry suggests Marvel might change its release plans. According to one report, “Avengers Doomsday” could move up a week to December 11th, allowing it to screen in IMAX theaters for a week before “Dune 3” takes its place on December 18th.
John Campea also mentioned he checked with people in the industry to verify the information, stating he regularly does this. He said the responses he received showed that initial, informal discussions about the possibility have happened, but this doesn’t mean a change is confirmed – only that the idea is being considered.
According to Campea, the release date for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ might shift from December 18th, potentially moving up a week due to ‘Dune 3’.
Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed the reports about a delay, so currently, Avengers: Doomsday is still set to come out on December 18, 2026.
