Channing Tatum is set to reprise his role as Gambit in a new movie coming out next year. Fans loved his performance as the character in *Deadpool & Wolverine*, and Tatum recently discussed the often-debated topic of Gambit’s Cajun accent.
In a recent interview with *People Magazine*, Channing Tatum discussed the difficulties of balancing humor and plot in his films. He explained that it’s a constant process of deciding how to deliver lines – whether to play them for laughs with his Cajun accent, or to prioritize clarity for the story while still maintaining the accent. As Tatum put it, it’s ‘always an interesting negotiation’ to figure out what each line needs to achieve.
He described the subtle quality of his accent as a ‘push and pull’. He also pointed out that *Avengers: Doomsday* feels more serious and dramatic than *Deadpool & Wolverine*, which has a lot more comedy. While he loves the humor in the *Deadpool* films and expects it to be present, he emphasized that this new movie will be primarily dramatic.
The Russo brothers have directed several popular Marvel Cinematic Universe films, such as *Captain America: The Winter Soldier*, *Avengers: Infinity War*, and *Endgame*. They also have experience with comedy, having worked on the series *Community*. Given their success with Marvel’s biggest blockbusters, fans are hoping they can strike the right tone for the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday*.
Now that ‘Tatum’s Gambit’ is happening, the potential ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ movie faces a challenge: balancing the familiar superhero action fans expect with the over-the-top humor of a ‘Deadpool’ film. Given the long wait and the importance of Doctor Doom in Marvel comics, it would be better if ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ leaned towards a more serious and dramatic tone, as suggested by Tatum.
Tatum Addresses The High Bar for Avengers: Doomsday to Succeed
It remains to be seen whether *Doomsday* will be more successful than the previous *Avengers* movie, *Endgame*. Channing Tatum, having worked on the film, discussed the challenges of following up such a hit. He explained that the Russo brothers, the directors, had created a very high standard for themselves.
Despite everything, he’s hopeful about the new film. He said reading the script was shocking – he couldn’t believe what they’d done and thinks audiences will be equally surprised. He believes it’s so innovative, it will be mind-blowing, even more so than previous installments.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
