Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Release Date Reportedly Revealed (and It Makes Sense)

Avengers: Doomsday is a very important film for Marvel Studios, as they aim to finish the somewhat inconsistent Multiverse Saga with a strong conclusion. Many believe this could be Marvel’s most ambitious movie yet, given that directors Joe and Anthony Russo have brought together a huge cast of 27 actors playing iconic Marvel characters. The film will include multiple superhero teams battling Doctor Doom, and will surprisingly feature characters from the X-Men (played by actors from the previous Fox films). Fans are eager to see how the Russos manage such a large and complex story, and we might get a glimpse of their approach soon.

With production on Avengers: Doomsday seemingly finished, everyone is wondering when we’ll get a glimpse of the movie. According to Daniel Richtman (as reported by CBR), a first look at Doomsday might be shown before screenings of James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which comes out on December 19th.

Attaching The Avengers: Doomsday Teaser to Avatar: Fire and Ash Makes Sense

Avengers: Doomsday isn’t scheduled to be released until December 2026. Considering that’s still quite a ways off, releasing a teaser trailer during the holidays might seem premature. However, it could actually be a smart strategy for Marvel, helping to build anticipation and establish the mood for what will be a significant year for the MCU. The franchise isn’t currently as dominant in popular culture as it was in its prime during the 2010s. Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* didn’t perform well at the box office, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps was the only MCU film released this year to earn over $500 million worldwide. To reignite fan enthusiasm, it would be beneficial to start building hype for Doomsday now with a compelling teaser that generates excitement for the future. With just two films planned for release in 2026, Marvel can dedicate its full promotional efforts to Doomsday throughout the year.

To create excitement and build anticipation for Doomsday, showing the trailer before Avatar: Fire and Ash is a smart move. The first two Avatar movies are among the highest-earning films ever made, and the third one is expected to do just as well. Fire and Ash is likely to be the biggest movie of 2025, which means a lot of people will see the trailer. While Avengers films are already well-known, this would help Marvel reach an even wider audience. If the trailer gets a good reaction from the Avatar audience, that’s a positive indication for the future of the MCU.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it will be fascinating to see how the trailer is released. It might be shown only in theaters, like Universal did with the first glimpse of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. A short teaser was played before showings of Jurassic World Rebirth this summer, but the full Odyssey trailer hasn’t been officially published online yet. If Disney wants to make the Doomsday trailer release an even larger event, requiring people to see it in a theater would be one way to achieve that. The studio could also delay posting a first look on their social media accounts, encouraging people to go to the movies.

Regarding what the Doomsday teaser might show, it would be logical to center it on Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom. Unlike Thanos, Doom is entering the MCU without much prior introduction, meaning the Doomsday teaser will need to work hard to introduce the character and explain his reasons for acting. It would be a good idea to familiarize audiences with who Doom is through early promotional content. Downey’s return to the MCU is the film’s biggest draw, so Marvel should highlight that in their marketing.
