Rumors are circulating that a darker version of Hulk will appear in *Avengers: Doomsday*, joining other villainous takes on beloved Marvel characters. Interestingly, the ideal actor for this role already has a history with Marvel. While Mark Ruffalo has famously played Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming a key hero known for both his control over the Hulk and his intelligence, Edward Norton originally portrayed the character in *The Incredible Hulk*. The next phase of the MCU might dramatically change Ruffalo’s character’s story.
Rumors suggest that Avengers: Doomsday might feature multiple villainous versions of familiar characters, possibly uniting to assist Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.). One potential villain is a twisted take on the Hulk, specifically the character Maestro. In the Marvel comics, Maestro is a future version of the Hulk who is evil and uses Bruce Banner’s intelligence combined with the Hulk’s immense power for wicked deeds. Though Mark Ruffalo is expected to reprise his role as the Hulk in Doomsday – this hasn’t been officially confirmed – another actor might portray Maestro, and Lou Ferrigno would be an ideal choice.
Lou Ferrigno’s Marvel Past Explained
Lou Ferrigno, a former bodybuilder and actor, is famous for playing the Hulk in the classic 1978 television series, *The Incredible Hulk*, alongside Bill Bixby. He continued to play the Hulk in several follow-up movies, and even appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he had a small on-screen role as a security guard in the 2008 *The Incredible Hulk* film, Ferrigno also provided the Hulk’s voice for multiple MCU movies, including *The Avengers*, *Avengers: Age of Ultron*, and *Thor: Ragnarok*.
Casting Lou Ferrigno as Maestro in a future Avengers film would be a fitting tribute to his iconic role as the Hulk. Ferrigno recently played Lenny Montana in the series *The Offer*. The character of Maestro first appeared in Marvel comics in 1992, originating from a post-apocalyptic future (Earth 9200) destroyed by nuclear war. Interestingly, in the comics, Maestro teamed up with Doctor Doom to defeat AIM before eventually turning on him – a storyline that could be adapted for Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Maestro, a powerful Hulk variant, has already made a quick appearance in the MCU during the What If…? season finale as a sorcerer. This confirms his existence within the MCU’s multiverse and smoothly introduces him before his expected live-action debut in Avengers: Doomsday. Casting Lou Ferrigno, who famously played the Hulk for many years, as Maestro would be a fitting tribute to his career and a fantastic way to bring this long-rumored character to life in the MCU.
