Avengers: Doomsday’s Teaser Trailers May Actually Be Clues to Some Very Dark Twists

Promotion for the new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, is now happening, and it’s definitely got Marvel fans buzzing. Each week, a new short preview has been released, showcasing characters like Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the X-Men, the people of Wakanda, and the Fantastic Four. Fans are now trying to figure out why these specific characters are being highlighted, why in these trailers, and why in this particular order, leading to lots of different theories.

There’s a rather dark theory circulating that the directors of Avengers: Doomsday, the Russo Brothers, subtly revealed which characters would die in the movie by showcasing them in a specific way.

The Avengers: Doomsday Trailers May Be Eulogies For The Doomed

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been seeing plot leaks for Avengers: Doomsday everywhere online. Honestly, it’s hard to know what’s real, but a lot of the leaked details actually seem to support a theory I’ve been developing based on the trailers. It’s pretty interesting, and makes me wonder if there’s something to it!

The new film is likely to center around Steve Rogers, since his actions in Avengers: Endgame caused problems with time and potentially fractured the multiverse. This makes Steve a significant anomaly that Doctor Doom will need to address, and it could prevent Steve from returning to his ideal life with his son and Peggy Carter.

In a surprising scene, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is shown praying – not for his own safety, but to protect his adopted daughter, Love. Fans have noticed the irony of the powerful Thunder God appealing to a higher power. It’s clear Thor is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to save everything he cares about, and it looks like he might soon have to. Adding to the complexity, Thor’s brother, Loki, is currently the one maintaining the stability of reality, which unfortunately makes him a prime target for the villain, Doom.

The Fox X-Men movies are essentially over, finished when Disney bought Fox. But Avengers: Doomsday (and maybe Secret Wars too) seems set to give those films and actors one last big goodbye. A clip showing Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto playing chess suggests their stories will come to a definitive end.

The new trailer for Shuri suggests danger for Wakanda and Talokan. While it’s unlikely Ben Grimm/The Thing will die early in the Fantastic Four series, other characters aren’t as safe. Shuri’s voiceover hints at her duty as Black Panther to protect the multiverse, and a king’s obligation to stand with their people during a final battle—possibly referencing Namor, M’Baku, or Prince T’Challa II. Both Wakanda and Talokan made it through Avengers: Infinity War, but they might not survive the events of this new story.

A Final Goodbye to Beloved Actors

As I’ve mentioned before, Avengers: Doomsday seems to be aiming for more than just concluding the current story arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also a story about the history of the Marvel movies themselves, and how they’ve come together under Disney’s ownership. This film feels like a farewell to earlier eras of Marvel movies – a definite end to the X-Men franchise, and possibly a chance to acknowledge other past franchises like Spider-Man or films like Fantastic Four before they’re effectively finished.

It seems Avengers: Doomsday is serving as a natural conclusion for many Marvel actors, particularly those who’ve been with the franchise since the early 2000s. Stars like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden likely want to put an end to speculation about future appearances. The same applies to current MCU actors – some, like Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, seem ready to move on, while others, such as Letitia Wright and Ténoch Huerta, may be phasing out as the series continues without them.

Looking at these Avengers: Doomsday previews with everything we know now, it’s difficult not to see them as farewells, hinting that major characters will face significant sacrifices – and potentially leave the series altogether.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theatres on December 18th.
