Early trailers for the upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers: Doomsday, might hint at a connection to the events of Avengers: Endgame. Since December 2025, Marvel has released four teaser trailers showcasing familiar faces like Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), along with the original X-Men team – Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden). The trailers also reveal a team-up between the Wakandans and the Fantastic Four, featuring characters like Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía), Namora (Mabel Cadena), and The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).
The trailers have understandably gotten fans talking and creating theories about Doomsday’s role and how it all connects. Viewers are wondering what’s pulling Steve Rogers back into action, why Thor seems so disturbed, and what led Cyclops to unleash such a powerful attack. Plus, there’s the mystery of the Fantastic Four—or at least a portion of them—appearing in Wakanda. While many questions remain, one popular theory attempts to explain these clues by focusing on the recurring countdown seen throughout the trailer footage.
The promotional teasers for the movie, including the post about the trailers reaching a billion views, all feature a countdown. However, fans believe these countdowns might be more than just a way to build anticipation. A Reddit user, u/Fear_Itself, has theorized that each teaser briefly displays a timecode that corresponds to a specific, important scene from the film, Endgame.
SPOILERS: I cracked the code
byu/Fear_ltself inMCUTheories
- 1e:24ber:02020: If taken as being 1:24:20 (one hour, 24 minutes, 20 seconds) into Endgame, this correlates to the scene where Bruce Banner visits the Ancient One, and learns about the MCU timeline and how removing Infinity Stones can create new branches.
- 1e:17ber:02020: This takes us to the scene in Endgame where Loki briefly impersonates Captain America, right before he steals the Tesseract and escapes.
- 1e:11ber:02020:This timestamp puts us in Asgard, where Thor and Rocket attempt to retrieve the Aether, and where Rocket asks Thor if he’s crying (later repurposed for Deadpool & Wolverine and sparking a dozen “why was Thor crying?” theories).
- 1e:04ber:02020: Rather than taking place during the Time Heist, this scene finds the Avengers planning it, with an interaction between Scott Lang and Rocket at that specific point.
- 1e:01ber:02020: This sees Hawkeye testing the time travel equipment, being transported out of his home and back to the Avengers facility.
What Do The Endgame Time Codes Tell Us About Avengers: Doomsday?
Look, it’s totally possible I’m reading way too much into this, and we’re all just seeing patterns where none exist. But the Russo brothers, the directors, have hinted there are clues hidden in the trailers. And the fact that some fans are finding connections between numbers in the trailer and specific moments in Avengers: Endgame? That’s pretty intriguing, especially since the movie isn’t even out for another year. It’s got me hooked, I’ll admit!
As a huge fan, what really excites me about these potential timestamps isn’t just that they could be real, but how they line up with the whole multiverse idea we’ve seen building in the MCU, especially after Endgame. All these scenes seem to be either the Avengers figuring out the Time Heist, or actually in the past, which naturally creates the possibility of messing with the timeline. It makes me think ‘Doomsday’ will finally dive into the fallout of the Avengers’ time travel, showing that their actions had much bigger consequences for the multiverse than we initially realized.
A popular idea about why Steve Rogers reappeared involves Doctor Doom. The theory suggests that Rogers traveling to the past – whether he jumped between timelines or universes is debated even by those who created the story – caused a catastrophic event that harmed Doom’s world, potentially destroying it and killing his family. Another possibility is that Doom sees himself as a hero trying to save the entire multiverse from these catastrophic events, even if it means making difficult choices and ultimately ruling what’s left.
Even though some ideas are far-fetched and the timing is a little questionable, it makes sense that the events of Endgame could have consequences we see in a potential Doomsday story. This would create stronger connections between Avengers films, which Marvel is likely trying to do, especially since the current Multiverse Saga has been criticized for feeling disjointed. While the Time Heist successfully stopped Thanos, it’s possible it also inadvertently set the stage for future events, like the rise of Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18th, 2026.
