As a huge Marvel fan, I was absolutely floored when Marvel announced the cast for Avengers: Doomsday! The livestream was already amazing, but the biggest shock was seeing actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden – basically, the original X-Men cast – joining the team. It’s so cool that Marvel is giving them a proper send-off as part of the Multiverse Saga finale before they fully reboot the X-Men for the next phase of the MCU. Ever since we heard they were coming back, everyone’s been buzzing about how they’d fit into the Doomsday story, and now we’re finally getting a first glimpse of what to expect!
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been following the weekly teasers for Avengers: Doomsday, and the marketing is already in full swing! The newest one just dropped – it actually leaked online first, which was fun – and it focuses on the X-Men and their long-awaited arrival in the MCU. We finally get to see Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden) back in action! Plus, they’re bringing back the Sentinels, and they’re even giving us that awesome 90s X-Men aesthetic from Jim Lee’s artwork. Here’s the teaser – you have to check it out!

What We Learned From The Avengers: Doomsday X-Men Teaser
The latest Avengers: Doomsday trailer is the most exciting one yet, really building the tension for the upcoming battle. Each teaser has felt different – Captain America’s was calm, Thor’s focused on getting ready, and this one with Cyclops definitely moves things forward. If this keeps up, the next trailer will likely be packed with intense action. It’s also worth noting that we still haven’t seen Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Even without the threat of Doom, the trailer hints at significant trouble. We see a discarded and damaged plaque from Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, and the school itself appears to be in ruins, suggesting something awful has occurred. Charles Xavier is shown in his wheelchair, wearing an X-Men uniform, but Magneto looks noticeably older and disheveled. In a voiceover, Ian McKellen as Magneto says, “Death comes for us all. It’s the one thing I’m certain of. The real question isn’t whether you’re ready to die, but who you will be at the moment of death.”
The trailer then delivers a key moment: James Marsden as Cyclops, sporting his classic yellow and blue suit (though without the trunks), is shown with Sentinels looming behind him. He angrily fires his optic blast into the sky, a very recognizable image. This raises the question: could this be the scene that explains why Jean Grey isn’t in Doomsday?
Considering how his character ended in The Last Stand, seeing Professor X at full strength is a major highlight of Doomsday so far, and his comic-book-accurate costume is a great addition. Plus, it’s fantastic to see Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart share the screen again as what many consider the greatest comic book movie pairing of all time.
