Avengers: Endgame is the most emotionally impactful movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story focuses on the Avengers dealing with the loss of friends and allies after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. We see Captain America leading a support group, and Thor struggling with grief and letting himself go in New Asgard. While it’s hard to watch these characters in pain, it’s essential for the plot of Endgame. Their heartbreak ultimately drives them to try and reverse Thanos’ devastating actions.
While Endgame delivers a powerfully emotional finale – featuring Tony Stark’s sacrifice and Steve Rogers finding peace in the past with Peggy Carter – it surprisingly holds back from fully exploring its most impactful scene. Fortunately, this scene doesn’t have to remain unused; the filmmakers could potentially include it in a future Avengers film, Doomsday, if they choose to do so.
Avengers: Endgame Leaves Its Saddest Scene on the Cutting Room Floor

Throughout most of Infinity War, Thanos is focused on gathering the Infinity Stones so he can fulfill his plan to eliminate half of all life. He easily obtains most of them, but acquiring the Soul Stone proves difficult. The Red Skull reveals that someone must sacrifice a loved one to claim it. Reluctantly, Thanos throws Gamora off a cliff, securing the stone. Soon after, he completes the Infinity Gauntlet and snaps his fingers, despite Thor’s attempt to stop him. However, before Thanos can celebrate, he’s haunted by a vision of young Gamora and is forced to confront the cost of his mission to his daughter.
You know, with everything happening in the MCU, it’s easy to just dismiss Thanos’ scenes with Gamora as him being a little off. But I recently learned something fascinating! Apparently, the original plan for Endgame almost included a really powerful, permanent consequence of using the Infinity Stones. There was a deleted scene where Tony Stark actually ends up in the same sort of afterlife space Thanos visited – they call it the Way Station – and meets a mysterious girl. It turns out she’s an older version of his daughter, Morgan! And she wasn’t angry at him for sacrificing himself to save everyone. It’s a really touching moment, but ultimately the filmmakers decided to focus on other characters’ grief instead. Still, I’m holding out hope that maybe we’ll see that scene again someday – it felt like a really important piece of Tony’s story.
Avengers: Doomsday Could Use Morgan Stark to Its Advantage

Although Marvel missed the opportunity for a final scene between Tony Stark and his daughter, Morgan, there’s still a chance she could return in future films. The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will reunite Earth’s heroes, and even though Iron Man is gone, his legacy will continue to be felt. Surprisingly, Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time since Endgame – but he’ll be playing the villain, Doctor Doom. Doom is expected to be a significant character, aiming to surpass Thanos as the ultimate threat, and his connection to Tony Stark – being somewhat of a look-alike – will play a key role in the story. This similarity could create a difficult challenge for the Avengers, but it might also give them an edge.
As a lifelong movie fan, I always believe even the toughest villains have something that gets to them. With Doctor Doom, I think there’s gotta be a soft spot somewhere. It’d be amazing if the Avengers found a universe where he has a daughter – someone who could maybe reach him and stop his plans. Honestly, even Morgan Stark could fill that role, especially if Doom knew they shared a connection to our Earth. But here’s a real chance for Doom to redeem himself: he tragically cut Tony Stark’s last call with Morgan, so imagine if he became the one helping a daughter connect with her father’s legacy. That would be a powerful twist!
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
