Even though “Avengers: Secret Wars” isn’t out for over a year, a new rumor about a character who previously died coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting fans excited.

Which MCU character is returning for Avengers: Secret Wars?

A post on X (formerly Twitter) from My Time To Shine Hello claims Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, will be back in the upcoming movie Avengers: Secret Wars. This is surprising, as Tony Stark seemingly died in Avengers: Endgame when he gave his life to defeat Thanos and his forces.

Fans are wondering how Tony Stark might return in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie. Reports suggest Robert Downey Jr., who famously played Iron Man for over ten years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, could reprise his role as a variant of Stark in Avengers: Doomsday. There’s even talk that the movie will culminate in a showdown between Iron Man and Doctor Doom.

Robert Downey Jr. surprised Marvel fans by agreeing to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time as the iconic villain Doctor Doom. The acclaimed actor will portray the character in the upcoming films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

The upcoming movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will conclude the current storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, known as the Multiverse Saga. Doomsday will kick things off, bringing together Earth’s mightiest heroes – including the Avengers, a new team of Avengers, the warriors of Wakanda, the Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men – to battle the villain Doctor Doom.

Like past Avengers films, Doomsday boasts a huge cast of stars. Key actors include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America (Sam Wilson), Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, and Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers.

I’m really excited to hear that Anthony and Joe Russo are directing Avengers: Doomsday! They’re teaming up with writers Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely for the script, which is awesome. And on top of that, they’re also going to direct Secret Wars – I can’t wait to see what they do with both of these movies!

The next Avengers movie, titled Doomsday, is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Following that, Secret Wars will be in theaters on December 17, 2027.
