A new Avengers: Secret Wars rumor provides some insight into how Doctor Doom will create Battleworld.
Marvel is currently finishing up production on Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. It’s scheduled to hit US theaters later this year, and a follow-up movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, will be released in 2027.
What is the Avengers: Secret Wars rumor?
Okay, so as a huge comic fan, let me tell you about “Secret Wars.” Basically, the entire Marvel Multiverse gets wiped out – all those different realities colliding and then…gone. But Doctor Doom? He’s a survivor. He manages to grab bits and pieces of those destroyed universes and stitches them together to create this new planet called Battleworld. And, naturally, he decides he’s in charge of the whole thing. It’s a pretty wild setup!
Details about the plots of the upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars, are still secret, but fans believe they will involve an ‘incursion’ – an event that leads to the formation of a place called Battleworld. According to insider James Mack, we’re now learning more about how Battleworld will actually come to be.
According to Mack, when the conflict begins, one group will find refuge in the Quantum Realm, while another will survive on a makeshift vessel traveling across the landscape of the TVA (the Void). He describes Doom’s control over the Void as similar to Cassandra Nova’s power, but on a much larger scale – Doom will be the absolute ruler, essentially a god.
The Void in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – separate from the Void appearing in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie – is a desolate realm existing at the end of time, shown in Loki and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. If a recent report is accurate, this suggests that Doom’s Battleworld might not be a completely new planet, but rather a place he builds within the Void.
Director Peyton Reed hinted that Cassie Lang (played by Kathryn Newton) might be the key to entering the Quantum Realm when the multiverse begins to collapse, a theory fans have been discussing. Although Marvel hasn’t officially announced Newton’s role, she was recently spotted wearing gear from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday set.
The next major Avengers movie, currently titled Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to release on December 18, 2026. Following that, Avengers: Secret Wars is planned for release on December 17, 2027.
