Avowed Coming To PlayStation 5 On February 17

Obsidian’s RPG, Avowed, which first launched on Xbox Series X and S a year ago, will now be available on PlayStation 5.

When it’s released on February 17th, it will include several significant new features as part of a larger anniversary update.

During the New Game Plus showcase, it was revealed that the game will get three new playable races – Dwarves, Orlan, and Aumaua – and a brand new weapon type. Players can also look forward to the previously announced New Game Plus mode and Photo Mode, both launching soon.

Obsidian Entertainment announced on social media that Avowed will be available on PlayStation for $49.99. A Deluxe Edition, including extra in-game items like armor and skins, plus an artbook, will cost $59.99.

Before Avowed was released, Xbox announced the standard edition would cost $69.99, and a Digital Premium Edition with five days of early access would be priced at $89.99.

While the game was available at no extra cost for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, and this was a year ago, it’s still noteworthy.

Unlike games like Gears of War: Reloaded, The Outer Worlds 2, and Doom: The Dark Ages, which launched on both Xbox and PlayStation at the same time, Avowed and South of Midnight will have different release schedules. Avowed is now set to come out in February, and South of Midnight is planned for sometime in Spring 2026, as announced at The Game Awards last month.

A Year Later, Obsidian Found A Way To Make Non-Humans Work

In a nearly five-minute video, lead character artist Dmitri Berman explained the challenges the Obsidian team encountered while trying to include other playable races in the game, ultimately leading to their exclusion from the initial release.

Early discussions included ideas for races like Dwarves and Orlan, but it proved challenging to fully develop them, particularly when considering how they would fit with Avowed’s parkour and combat features.

Berman explained that the various races in the game have distinct body types and shapes. Playing as each race in a first-person perspective offers a unique experience, and creating this variety presented a new challenge for the development of Avowed.

However, where there is a will, there is a way, and a year later, that vision will be realized.

Berman explained that development on this project was paused while the team focused on Avowed, but now they’re ready to release it to players.
