SEGA has zero interest in remastering Dreamcast launch title Sonic Adventure and its sequel.
At its debut, the 3D platformer game garnered a chilly but enthusiastic response from critics. However, I hold a special affinity for this game, primarily because it ignited an era of remarkable action games on what is now considered one of the greatest gaming consoles ever made.
According to Sonic Team’s leader, Takahashi Iizuka, it would require a significant amount of effort to upgrade their existing games to match the quality of contemporary releases.
I frequently receive requests for a Sonic Adventure remaster. I’m grateful for the fans who love the Sonic Adventure series. However, when I consider the effort required to update it to meet today’s gaming standards and audience expectations, it seems comparable to creating a new game from scratch. This leads me to think that maybe it would be more feasible to develop a completely new title, which is why there are no current plans for a remaster.
SEGA transferred the initial Sonic Adventure games onto the PlayStation 3, however, at present, these games cannot be played directly on the PS5 without additional steps or compatible hardware.
It’s speculated that the Japanese publisher might be planning to do something new with their old catalog, as they’ve recently taken down the SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics collection from sale, and deleted several retro games from the iOS App Store.
It would be fantastic if we could find an Arcade Archives-style platform on the PlayStation Store for SEGA’s back catalog. Nowadays, many publishers are recognizing the worth of re-releasing classic games, and SEGA’s collection is nearly as extensive as Nintendo’s in terms of high-quality content.
On the subject of Sonic Adventure remasters, we do agree with Iizuka, though.
We prefer Sonic Team to further explore the concepts introduced in the impressive Sonic Frontiers game, as it has captured our interest more than other titles in the series.
Instead of asking directly, you could pose this as a question that invites discussion: “What are your thoughts on the possibility of Sonic Adventure remasters being developed instead of the current projects? Share your views, particularly about the Big the Cat levels, in the comments below.
