It’s been more than ten years since Axle Whitehead played Liam Murphy on Home and Away, but he’d be happy to return to the show if given the chance.
In 2013, the character of Whitehead departed the show when he moved away to be with his son, Ash. This allowed him to focus on his family and move away from his troublemaking past.
Because Liam’s departure from the show wasn’t permanent, there’s always been a possibility he could come back, and fans have often speculated about whether the actor would reprise the role.
I was really struck by what he said. He doesn’t rule anything out, and you can tell he genuinely enjoyed his time on the show. He described it like a really intense, fast-paced experience, but also incredibly fun and a fantastic place to learn and grow, especially because of the amazing connection he felt with everyone involved. He truly believes you should never close doors on possibilities.
In just a few days, viewers will see James Whitehead on Channel 4’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which is debuting a new format for this season.
The new series starts on Sunday, January 4th, and will push 14 celebrities from Britain and Australia to their absolute limits.
Whitehead is competing as part of Team Australia alongside well-known personalities like Jessika Power from Married at First Sight Australia, Neighbours stars Ryan Moloney and Natalie Bassingthwaighte, cricketer Brad Hodge, and Olympic athletes Emily Seebohm and Mack Horton.
The UK team’s celebrity contestants are a mix of well-known faces, including Dani Dyer, Gabby Allen, Jack Joseph, and Cole Anderson-James from TV and social media, along with rugby player Ben Cohen, Gladiator star Toby Olubi, and cricketer Graeme Swann.
The competition pushes British and Australian recruits to their absolute breaking points. Every error is harshly penalized, and any vulnerability is ruthlessly exposed. As the pressure mounts, relationships will fray, confidence will crumble, and some recruits will be driven so far beyond their limits they’ll question everything they thought they knew.
Once everything calms down, the big question is whether any of these celebrities will be able to handle the intense physical and mental challenges and prove themselves to the Directing Staff. Ultimately, though, everyone is wondering if the UK or Australia will win when their competition comes to a head.
