Ayesha Curry Addresses Narrative Husband Steph Curry Wasn’t Her Type

Ayesha Curry is calling a foul on this rumor.

Ten years after Ayesha Curry, author of Seasoned Life, talked about avoiding athletes when she was in high school—and before she met her future husband, Steph Curry—she explained what she was thinking back then.

Ayesha shared on the March 25th episode of the IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson podcast that when she was 14, she held common, stereotypical views about athletes. Being involved in theater, she felt she was simply defending her own interests and social circle.

The 37-year-old, married to the Golden State Warriors star since 2011, remembered the rule started with a school assignment. Students were asked to describe what they’d want in a perfect partner.

She confirmed she both said and thought it, but acknowledged it was a disrespectful thing to say.

She explained in her interview with Steph that her hesitation stemmed from her own personal insecurities about starting a relationship.

She clarified that people had misinterpreted her past comments. She hadn’t thought he wasn’t her type, but rather she didn’t think she was his type. She explained to Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson that she’d underestimated her appeal, assuming he only saw her as a friend because he seemed so cool and out of her league.

Although she and Steph were friends in high school, they didn’t become a couple until four years later. They share four children: Riley, 13, Ryan, 10, Canon, 7, and Caius, who is 22 months old. Even so, their relationship still came as a surprise.

Honestly, things were getting confusing for me, so I told him as much. He’d actually been coming to my parents’ house every day for two weeks at that point, so I was really trying to understand what was happening.

She continued, explaining he’d asked if she thought he’d been visiting for the last two weeks just to play video games with her brothers. She said she replied that it all suddenly clicked and made sense.

Ayesha is happy she and Steph took a risk on their relationship, even though their approach wasn’t traditional. She joked about how glad she was that things didn’t just stay platonic, saying, “I’m glad I didn’t end up just being a friend.”

Ayesha and Stephen aren’t your typical parents – they’re really cool! They managed to get tickets to the premiere of The Lion King back in 2019.

Back in August 2018, Stephen penned an essay about gender equality.

Honestly, all I want for my daughters is for them to know they can be anything. Seriously, absolutely anything! I don’t want them ever feeling limited because they’re girls. It drives me crazy to think about them growing up with some invisible rulebook telling them what’s ‘okay’ for them to want or do. I just want them to chase huge dreams, whatever those are, and to know they’ll be judged on their skills and effort, not their gender. And please, please let them get paid what they deserve – the same as anyone else doing the same job! It’s just… everything I want for them, you know?

Ayesha is a dedicated supporter of her husband and his team, always quick to cheer them on – whether she’s at the games or showing her enthusiasm online.

She told TopMob News’ Daily Pop in 2017 that she was a huge fan and couldn’t resist expressing her enthusiasm, repeating, “I’m such a fan.”

Following the Golden State Warriors’ victory in the 2015 NBA Finals, Stephen Curry was showered with affection from his wife, Ayesha, and their daughter, Riley.

Stephen Curry is known for basketball, but he also strongly supports his wife, Ayesha. When her cookbook, The Seasoned Life, came out in 2016, he made a point of attending multiple book signing events, including one at Williams-Sonoma.

Stephen met up with his biggest cheerleaders when he won the 2017 NBA Finals.
