Bachelorette Jenn Tran Shares the Moment Sam McKinney Gave Her the Ick

As a seasoned observer of the ever-evolving landscape of reality television relationships, I must say, it’s truly heartwarming to see some of these Bachelor Nation couples finding their happily ever after. Dean and Caelynn, who once captivated us with their #vanlife adventures, have come full circle, tying the knot in a camp-themed affair that echoes their shared love for the great outdoors. Their journey from Paradise to the altar is a testament to the fact that sometimes, even when things don’t work out initially, fate has a way of bringing people back together.

Sam McKinney’s journey on Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette wasn’t exactly a bed of roses.

At first, it appeared as if their bond was flourishing, with her even presenting him with the first impression rose. However, their romance didn’t last and instead faded away.

After the group date at the radio station in Seattle on August 12th, things became quite prickly for Jenn.

During the interview with Francesca Amiker at TopMob News, she shared that it was then that she understood we hadn’t conversed much, he didn’t know her well, and he couldn’t answer her questions. She admitted feeling uncomfortable, saying it was as if things weren’t adding up, and she struggled to make sense of the situation. In such instances when someone’s personality doesn’t resonate with her, she swiftly decides that it’s time to move on.

In week six, Jenn voiced her worry that Sam M. didn’t have a clear reason as to why he cared for her in particular. This left her puzzled when he declared his affection for her during season 21, causing her to question whether his feelings were sincere.

Additionally, it didn’t make things any easier when Sam M. mentioned during the group date that he had initially believed Daisy Kent or Maria Georgas would be chosen as the Bachelorette, just like Jenn, who had also been contenders for Joey Graziadei’s affections on the latest season of ‘The Bachelor’.

“Reflecting back on it, I hadn’t realized that incident occurred until I rewatched it,” I confided in TopMob. “And I was taken aback, thinking ‘Ah, that was a moment of verbal overload. Well, at least it’s out.’ It was disheartening to learn he had made those comments. I can’t fathom what he might have been thinking. However, in the grand scheme of things, events unfolded as they were meant to for us both.”

In the end, Jenn dismissed Sam M. prior to the rose ceremony. Now, with only two potential partners left—Devin Strader and Marcus Shoberg—she is taking time to contemplate the lessons she has gathered during her journey.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’ve made an eye-opening discovery about myself: I’m not particularly inclined towards confrontation. Avoiding conflict has always been my preference. I strive to maintain optimism and harmony by presuming the best in others, fostering a peaceful environment. However, I’ve come to understand that at times, upholding peace isn’t always beneficial. There are instances when one must be assertive, even confrontational, to safeguard personal boundaries. This has been my recent realization.

Jenn boldly expressed her true feelings towards Sam M. directly, without fear, during the “Men Tell All” event.

During the Aug. 27 episode, the physician assistant student expressed, “I didn’t take offense at your inability to express love. It’s evident we have different emotional and intellectual perspectives. However, what I found troubling was seeing how you conducted yourself with those men: Puffing up your chest here and there, showing disrespect towards everyone. To top it off, our relationship was problematic because everything seemed to revolve around you—your feelings, your desires, your actions. Everything appeared to center on you.”

In his own words, Sam M. acknowledged that the delivery of certain things could’ve been significantly improved.

As a lifestyle advisor, I’d say, “Reflecting on my experiences, I find it challenging. It’s all too easy to scrutinize past actions and yearn for changes, but alas, I must carry the weight of those choices. Words have always been my refuge, yet in this instance, they failed me. Whatever thoughts floated to the surface, they never seemed sufficient to encapsulate the depth of feelings I harbored in that specific moment.”

The contractor emphasized that his feelings for Jenn were intense and unequivocally declared his love for her. Additionally, Sam M. clarified his previous remarks concerning his belief that either Daisy or Maria could have been the next Bachelorette, both of whom had reportedly been offered the role but chose to decline it instead.

Sam M. shared with the other contestants that none of us knew who the Bachelorette would be when we arrived here. However, if anyone claims they didn’t suspect it might be Daisy or Maria, they’re telling a fib, he asserted. Yet, Sam emphasized that his intention was not to disrespect Jenn. If it appeared that way, then again, he expressed remorse for the way he communicated, acknowledging that he needs to improve in this area.

Regarding Jenn, she’s all set to advance further in her journey, which concludes on September 3. As viewers eagerly anticipate who will receive her final rose, let’s explore the current relationship statuses of other ‘Bachelor’ and ‘Bachelorette’ alums.

After courting 32 potential brides, tennis pro Joey Graziadei found his perfect match in project manager Kelsey Anderson. “I can’t wait another minute to tell you that I love you,” Joey told his final rose recipient, before getting down on one knee during his season’s March 2024 finale. “There is something about you. You have this infectious energy that makes me smile. It’s a feeling I’ve never had before.”

Imagining his forever with the Louisiana native, he continued, “I have known for a while that I’ve wanted to have a beautiful life, but I truly didn’t know how beautiful that life could be until I met you.”

The relationship between underwater welder John Henry Spurlock (a suitor of Charity Lawson) and nurse Kat Izzo (who vied for Zach Shallcross’s heart) didn’t blossom until halfway through season nine of “Bachelor in Paradise.” Despite this late start, they were willing to take a risk. As John put it while presenting an Ascher cut Neil Lane diamond, “I’m going to attempt something different today. My heart is leading me to believe that you are exceptional, you are everything I’ve been searching for.”

Despite her nerves about a Paradise engagement, an all-dressed-in-white Eliza Isichei (one of Clayton Echard‘s exes) happily accepted Aaron Bryant‘s oceanfront proposal. Touched by the software salesman’s decision to reach out to her mom for her blessing, she gushed, “I knew I was not in control of what was going to come out of my mouth.”

The finale’s coda acknowledged Charity’s ex and marketing manager Eliza had hit some bumps after returning from Mexico, and days later they announced they had officially ended their engagement.

“Tricky emotions watching it all unfold,” he wrote on Instagram Dec. 11. “We’re leading our amicable split with nothing but positivity and mutual respect for one another.”

Though postpartum nurse Kylee Russell lamented boyfriend Aven Jones‘ unwillingness to get down on bended knee—a move he was purportedly prepared to make while romancing Bachelorette Rachel Recchia—she ultimately accepted Aven’s Paradise proposal to “get out of here and make it work.”

Though that meant her planned engagement gown remained packed, “I just had to do what I felt was right,” she said. “Love is all about taking risk.”

Two days after their December 2023 finale aired, she announced on her Instagram Stories that their relationship had “dissolved due to multiple infidelities.” Aven later issued an apology to Kylee, writing, “I have made major mistakes in the relationship and hurt someone who was very close to me.”

Charity Lawson gleefully shared with TopMob News her satisfaction with the current season, a sentiment that fell short of expressing the grandeur of her August 2023 finale. Integrative medicine specialist Dotun Olubeko knelt down and declared their relationship to be “flawless,” asking the child and family therapist, “Will you accept this fairy tale and make it a reality by becoming my wife?”

Ah, Mom and Dad. Though they left BIP season seven hand-in-Neil-Lane-diamond-free-hand, Danielle Maltby, who lost her fiancé to a drug overdose years before she competed on Nick Viall‘s season, and single dad Michael Allio (he shares 7-year-old son James with his late wife) seemed slated for Bachelor Nation couple goals status.

But a year after Maltby relocated from Nashville to be with Allio in Ohio, he confirmed they’d split. “We both threw a lot into this relationship and it’s really awful when it doesn’t work out,” Allio said on a September 2023 episode of Jason Tartick‘s Trading Secrets podcast. “When things don’t work out, when you realize that love is there, but you’re not necessarily compatible, you mourn the loss, not of just that person and that friend in your life, but also the future that you had envisioned.”

Brandon Jones publicly declared his eternal love for Serene Russell during their appearance on season seven of ‘Paradise’. However, their relationship didn’t last long; five months after their engagement aired, they announced their separation in May 2023. The relationship between reality TV star Rachel and general contractor Tino Franco hit a snag during their 2022 season when he was caught kissing another woman. In an interview on “The Viall Files,” Tino admitted, “I absolutely do not condone my actions at all. It was not right, it wasn’t fair to Rachel, and I still regret it deeply every day. It’s something I feel ashamed of, and if given the chance, I would change it a million times over.”

Well, it was certainly a journey. Susie Evans initially rejected Bachelor Clayton’s overtures during the 2022 finale only to reunite with him off-camera…and then split once again six months later.

But the L.A.-based videographer insists their breakup was for the right reasons. “The people around me could see that my sparkle had dulled and I was far from thriving,” she wrote in a Nov. 21 post for her blog “Susie Was Like.” She acknowledged they “had joyous moments often, but deep down I was struggling and felt misaligned with the best version of me.”

Susie is now dating fellow Bachelor Nation member Justin Glaze.

The pair Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian, from BIP season seven, won viewers over with their shared dream of leisurely Sunday mornings. However, they could only spend a few dozen weekends together before parting ways. In a joint statement released in January 2022, their coordinator Maurissa (who dated Peter Weber) and attorney Riley (one of Tayshia Adams’ suitors), expressed that they had to move on separately. They didn’t anticipate this, but they found themselves at a point where they needed to focus on personal growth.

The first same-sex pair from Bachelor Nation announced their separation in the year 2019, having gotten engaged during the sixth season of “Bachelor in Paradise” and breaking up on Halloween.

In simpler terms, they expressed that love and concern for each other has been central to their relationship since the beginning. Their primary focus has always been ensuring their mutual well-being. With deep affection for one another, they have made the difficult decision to step away from their relationship temporarily. Their ultimate goal is what’s best for them in the long term, and at this moment, that means growing independently. They shared this news on Instagram in a joint statement.

Becca Kufrin, who was once the Bachelorette, and Thomas Jacobs (a contestant on Katie Thurston’s season) started dating during ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ season seven in 2021. They split up while the show was still airing, but reconciled after filming ended. In May 2022, they announced their engagement, with Becca taking on the role of proposer. “I hope that others can now feel empowered and break the rules,” she told TopMob News. In the final episode of season 17 of “The Bachelorette” in 2021, Katie became engaged to Blake Moynes. Their love for each other was first expressed during their overnight date which included a paintball adventure, a cowboy tub, and a heart-to-heart talk under the night sky.

Bending down on a knee, Blake expressed to Katie, “You’re worthy of the whole world, and I’m thrilled to stand by your side and offer my support each day from now on.”

Approximately three months following the broadcast of their proposal, the couple disclosed their separation. In synchronous statements, they expressed, “We appreciate deeply the precious moments we experienced together and the incredible journey that unfolded over the past year. However, after careful consideration, we have determined that we are not ideally suited as lifelong partners. It is with kindness in our hearts that we choose to move forward separately.”

Following her entry to replace Clare Crawley during the 2020 season of “The Bachelorette”, Tayshia became smitten with Zac Clark. Despite ending her season with an engagement, Tayshia disclosed at a later date that their relationship faced some highs and lows.

In a new relationship, it can be challenging to leave for a few weeks; it’s as if you’re saying something familiar, she expressed on the ‘The Ben and Ashley I. Almost Famous’ podcast in August 2021, being straightforward and truthful about her feelings.

After that incident, it felt as though we should recall our reasons for being together. And I believe that’s entirely reasonable. However, in November 2021, TopMob News reported they had parted ways.

During season 16 of ‘The Bachelorette’, Clare became deeply smitten with Dale Moss. So much so, that they got engaged by the end of the fourth episode. However, the unexpected events didn’t cease as weeks later, when Tayshia found her own engagement, Dale announced on social media that his relationship with the hairdresser had ended.

Approximately a month after the initial split, speculation about reconciliation swirled when they were seen together once more. By July 2021, following multiple get-togethers, Clare and Dale had rekindled their relationship, complete with an engagement ring. However, they parted ways again in September. Currently, Clare is joyfully married to Ryan Dawkins, and they’re anticipating the arrival of their first child together.

Following a short engagement with winner Hannah Ann Sluss and later a breakup with runner-up Madison Prewett, fans had high hopes for Peter’s third attempt at love. Unfortunately, the relationship with The Bachelor season 24 star Kelley Flanagan didn’t work out as planned. On New Year’s Eve in 2020, the pilot announced that their nine-month romance had ended.

Pete shared on Instagram that although our relationship was full of many cherished moments, it ultimately didn’t succeed in the long run. However, Kelley remains someone I will always hold a unique affection for.

In 2022, they made another attempt at flying again, but later in May, they disclosed that their relationship had come to an end.

After the emotional 2020 finale, the pair shared on Instagram that they would no longer be nurturing their relationship. “Madi and I have jointly decided not to continue our romance,” Peter wrote. “I assure you this was not an easy decision for either of us, but after many open discussions, we have come to the conclusion that this is what works best for both of us. The affection and regard I hold for Madi will persist.”

In her declaration, Madi expressed, “I’ll forever cherish and honor him. I firmly believe that our lives were destined to intersect, and we’ve both grown for the better as a result.”

During season 24 of ‘The Bachelor’, Peter and Hannah Ann were engaged for a short while. Regrettably, just two parts into the finale, it came to light that the couple had been facing issues a month into their private relationship. More specifically, Hannah Ann was taken aback when she discovered that Peter still harbored feelings for Madison from earlier in the season.

She stated, “All along, I’ve just wanted someone to offer their entire affection as I am giving mine to them. And yet, you ended my first engagement,” she lamented, returning the ring. “You took that from me. It’s because I trusted you, and that’s what I’ve always been asking of you – ‘to be patient with me, to have faith in me.'”
