Bachelor’s Krystal Nielson Says Her Uterus Exploded While Giving Birth

Krystal Nielson is looking back at a scary experience.

Just three months after welcoming her son, Rowan Bowles, with her husband Miles Bowles, the Bachelor Nation star revealed that her uterus had ruptured during the birth of their second child.

Krystal remembered being dilated at 36 weeks of pregnancy, as she shared on the February 10th episode of the Almost Famous podcast. She and her partner – who she also shares 4-year-old daughter Andara with – expected their second child to arrive early and quickly, because second labors often progress rapidly. She explained that the body is already familiar with the process.

After receiving medication to prepare her cervix, a 38-year-old patient still hadn’t progressed after 35 hours. Her doctors then used a Foley balloon to help induce labor, but it became stuck. A nurse attempted to remove it.

After that, I began to bleed heavily,” Krystal remembered. “Things quickly got much worse because the object was completely stuck, and the pain was almost unbearable. The doctors couldn’t remove it.

Once the doctor removed the balloon used to help dilate her cervix, Krystal was given an epidural and her water was broken to begin labor. Despite several nurses changing shifts during her delivery, Krystal worried her son might arrive before anyone could get there. She continued to push for another three and a half hours, ultimately delivering successfully.

The reality star was feeling very dizzy during labor, so a midwife was helping her deliver the baby with a doctor available just in case. After being given oxygen, she asked the doctor to step in and explore other options.

Krystal described the doctor examining her baby and saying he was dangerously low in the birth canal and unable to move. The doctor then tried to turn him by reaching into her pelvis. Krystal said she lost consciousness at that point.

She explained that when she pulled her hand away, a lot of blood started flowing. She was immediately taken to the operating room. She wasn’t sure what had caused her uterus to rupture – whether it happened while she was trying to turn him, or if it had ruptured earlier – because she was losing energy quickly and had been feeling weak for some time.

Rowan was delivered by C-section, and unfortunately, the placenta had separated from the mother’s uterus prematurely, requiring him to be transferred to a different hospital for care. While her partner, Miles, went with the baby, she had surgery to repair her uterus.

Krystal remembered desperately praying as she was losing consciousness. She kept repeating, ‘God, please save my uterus, and please save my baby.’ Once her baby was safely delivered, her only plea became, ‘Please save this – my uterus.’

The surgeon explained that my uterus hadn’t just torn neatly – it had been completely shattered, like something hit by a car. She said it was so damaged they couldn’t sew it back together, and the stitches wouldn’t hold.

Fortunately, a surgical specialist arrived quickly – within ten minutes – to help. The patient shared, “It felt like a miracle they were able to save my uterus, and I’m incredibly thankful.”

Even though doctors were able to save Krystal’s uterus, they recommended she avoid future pregnancies due to the health problems she experienced.

It was incredibly painful to learn we wouldn’t be able to have another child. We’d hoped to get pregnant again within a year of Rowan’s birth. I had just gotten rid of my daughter’s baby clothes, thinking we’d have another little girl. I’m just unsure what the future holds for us and if we’ll have a third child. I honestly don’t know what’s meant to be.

Instead, she and Miles are simply focusing on their family of four right now.

She explained that she’s accepting whatever the next phase of her life brings. She’s been getting rid of baby items and doesn’t want to dwell on that part of her life anymore. She wants to stay open to new possibilities and see what happens next.

I’m still sending all my love and positive vibes to Krystal as she gets better, but reading about other celebs who’ve gone through tough health battles really puts things in perspective. It’s so brave of them to share, and honestly, I’m glued to any updates I can find. Here’s more on other stars who’ve faced their own health scares – I need to know everything!

Nikki Bella, known from Total Bellas, shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit in the chest by Piper Niven during a wrestling match in July 2025.

She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, that they would eventually get things sorted out. She explained to the doctor that as soon as her career was over, she’d return to address the issue and ensure everything looked its best, because she planned to be active again and didn’t want things looking subpar.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, when she shared on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.

She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and feeling isolated.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.

Okay, so someone recently messaged me on X – you might still know it as Twitter – asking why I haven’t been very active on social media. Honestly? It’s a bit of a funny story. About six months ago, I wore a pair of pants that were…a little too snug. It actually caused a hernia, and I’ve been a bit embarrassed to share that’s why I’ve been keeping a low profile! Sometimes life throws you curveballs, and comfortable clothing becomes a top priority, you know?

The former star of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery to fix a nearly ruptured appendix.

Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained that his appendix had a perforation – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.

He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player sat down on the field with a teammate supporting her, and then quickly collapsed. Trainers were called to assess her condition.

Savannah received immediate medical attention on the field and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests, according to a statement from the National Women’s Soccer League. They reported that she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 continue to cause him problems even now.

“It’s been incredibly difficult,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation—within the last year, actually.”

He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying, “My body has a few quirks and isn’t quite working perfectly.”

The reality TV star said he had to crawl to the hospital because of terrible back pain that got worse during a road trip with a friend.

He described a lingering tingling sensation in his knees and toes during a March 2025 episode of his podcast, Trading Secrets. To illustrate the extent of the issue, he explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a squat, or even stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

The comedian later posted on social media to explain he’d actually been sick with food poisoning, but was starting to feel better.

In February 2025, the former Even Stevens star revealed she was accidentally shot in the face during a birthday celebration for her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a clay pigeon shooting outing at the time.

In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a weapon unsafely. Thankfully, @thebrendanrooney quickly helped, checked her over, and drove her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye by less than an inch.

The Kim Possible actress explained that a small piece of something is stuck behind her eye. Doctors have advised against trying to remove it with surgery right now, but they will keep a close watch on her condition. She currently has normal vision.

The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared how much she cherishes her daughters, husband, family, and friends, explaining that she realized how precious life is. “Seeing my life pass before me really made me understand that you should hug your loved ones whenever you get the chance, because things can change so quickly,” she said.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often harsh nature, because it helped her uncover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer was surprised to see doctors commenting on her appearance online, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. They pointed out changes in her face that prompted her to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. These injections, she learned, had caused the condition. Schumer shared that she wouldn’t have known about it without the online comments. She recently expressed relief in a newsletter that her type of Cushing syndrome is resolving on its own and she is healthy.

In December 2024, an AHL player suffered a skate cut during a game and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald shared with ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially unable to speak or control the right side of her face. Though these symptoms eventually subsided, she went to the hospital for testing. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), often called a ‘mini-stroke’. Further investigation at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, adding that while the situation was frightening and unexpected, he was going to be okay and was thankfully doing much better.

Jamie Foxx recently shared details about the health scare he experienced in April 2023, which he had initially kept private. In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he suffered a severe headache one day while in Atlanta. Before he could even take an aspirin, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next twenty days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. Doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.

After surgery, twenty days later, on May 4th, Jamie woke up unable to walk and in a wheelchair. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.

Jamie expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star shared that she briefly stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC show.

It’s still so vivid to me, hearing her talk about it on Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser. She said she mostly doesn’t remember much, but she does remember the sound of a helicopter. She described feeling like she was floating, and then, amazingly, she said her grandpa appeared. After that, everything went dark, but then she saw light again. That’s when she knew, absolutely knew, that she had died that day. It’s incredibly powerful to hear her describe it like that.

She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially begins to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a sudden, severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.

A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Immediate surgery was performed to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak coherently.

Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia reports she has now made a full recovery and is at 100%.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how thankful she is for her family’s support after experiencing a stroke in January 2024. She immediately reached out to them, sending a text and a picture, and they quickly came to her aid, as she told Will Marfuggi of TopMob News in December 2024. While she could have been discharged after the stroke, Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer due to complications with lupus and kidney issues. Fortunately, Cori is now recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and has been working to regain some motor skills, but is otherwise doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she described a time when she was losing her hearing, unable to walk for more than a few minutes without needing to rest for hours, and experiencing constant stomach pain. She faced confusion due to conflicting diagnoses from different doctors.

Determined to find answers, Shailene—who has chosen to keep her specific condition private—combined traditional medical care with holistic and herbal remedies. This search for well-being spanned a decade.

She explained that the physical discomfort led to deeper issues, including fear of food and struggles with body image, identity, and feeling comfortable in her own body.

Ultimately, Shailene’s health improved, and she is now very healthy and happy. She shared that the issues resolved themselves after a long journey of addressing both her physical and mental well-being.
