Backlash Begins as New Dissidia Final Fantasy Game Is Revealed for Mobile

Following a brief preview yesterday, Square Enix has now fully unveiled Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy with the trailer you see above.

Even before people saw the game, there was some negative reaction starting. Now that it’s been released, the publisher is facing a lot of criticism on social media and in online comments.

If you haven’t heard of it, Duellum (Square Enix has a knack for unusual names!) is a game exclusively for mobile devices. It heavily features ‘gacha’ mechanics – basically, you randomly unlock characters and abilities, and it costs money to do so.

Unlike previous games, Duellum isn’t a fast-paced action fighter. It focuses on strategic, turn-based battles against other players and weaker enemies.

People aren’t happy with the new Final Fantasy game, Duellum, for a few reasons. It’s only available on mobile devices and the gameplay is very different from previous titles. Also, Square Enix has repeatedly cancelled similar free-to-play Final Fantasy games in the past, which is making players worried.

Over the past year, Square Enix has closed down two mobile Final Fantasy games. First, they shut down *Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier*, and now they’ve announced that the popular *Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius* will be removed at the end of this month.

Most Dissidia fans really want a new game on consoles, but it doesn’t seem like the company is planning to make one anytime soon.

The game’s previous attempt at a similar title, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, wasn’t successful. Critics didn’t like it, and it didn’t sell well enough to warrant continued updates and support.

We’d really love to see a remastered version of either Dissidia: Final Fantasy or Dissidia 012, both popular games from the PSP. Square Enix has a history of successful remasters, so we’re hoping they’ll consider these titles!
