The Backstreet Boysare manifesting their one musical desire.
The popular boy band, currently performing their nostalgic hits in Las Vegas, are hoping to take their show to the 2027 Super Bowl, complete with their signature coordinated look.
During their February 11th concert at the Las Vegas Sphere, Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean asked the audience if they’d like to see the group perform at the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime show. According to a fan video shared by @jpasc24, he suggested it would be a perfect fit since the game is being held in Los Angeles, which is close to where the band is based.
The Backstreet Boysâmade up of Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, and Brian Littrellâare excited about potentially performing a medley at next yearâs Super Bowl, but they weren’t always enthusiastic about headlining. Nick Carter shared that the group actually turned down the opportunity to be the halftime show in 2001, choosing instead to sing the national anthem.
Back then, we all really enjoyed Whitney Houstonâs performance of the national anthem. We actually had the opportunity to perform during the halftime show, but we decided not to. Still, it was a great experience for everyone involved, and I think we delivered a fantastic national anthem performance, as I said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2021.
He also complimented the boy band *NSYNC, who performed in that yearâs halftime show with Aerosmith, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly, saying they did âa great jobâ and that heâd like to perform with them sometime.
Nick reminisced about the late 1990s, describing it as a wonderful period that many people long for. He believes thereâs a desire to recapture that feeling as we emerge from the challenges of the past year and a half and everything society has experienced together.
Honestly, it’s like he gets me. He said they want to be part of that journey, you know? That feeling of finding love, becoming a better person, and finally stepping into the light. And it just⊠resonated. That’s why this whole thing feels so incredibly special to me. It’s not just an event; it’s about that feeling, and they understand it!
The Backstreet Boys are making a clear and enthusiastic push to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.
The band gained major exposure by appearing in two commercials during the 2026 Super Bowl on February 8th. They featured in a T-Mobile ad using their hit song âI Want It That Wayâ to promote a new phone plan, and also in a Coinbase ad that included a karaoke version of âEverybody (Backstreetâs Back).â
They haven’t ruled out the possibility of touring with *NSYNC, and are still considering a collaboration that would bring back a lot of fond memories for fans.
AJ spoke to TopMob News last February about *NSYNCâs infrequent touring, noting they hadnât toured in over 22 years. He said the group plans to continue as they have been, and while the future is uncertain, theyâll see what opportunities arise.
