Update [Fri 5th Dec 2025, 5am]:
A remarkably well-made fan game based on Banjo-Kazooie, created by Eupholace, recently became a hit on social media, even catching the eye of the original game’s developer, Rare.
The UK-based developer shared high praise for the project on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “incredible work.”
Though the team at Media Molecule has shifted away from developing Dreams, this story highlights just how powerful their engine is and showcases the incredible creativity and dedication of the game’s community.
It’s been a while since we last looked at Dreams, but the game’s community is still actively creating content on PlayStation 4.
So, I was super excited this week because Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania finally dropped! It’s not an official game, but it’s a really impressive 3D platformer made by Eupholace, who’s known for making awesome stuff in Dreams.
This game is a brief but polished 3D platformer starring the popular characters from Rare. It includes many of the classic moves players remember from the original games.
The core gameplay revolves around Mumbo Jumbo’s magic, which lets Banjo change into different forms. These transformations – like becoming a tiny rock to explore hidden spots or a cannon to blast to higher areas – are key to progressing through the game.
You can also control a cursor using the motion sensors in your controller. This lets Mumbo collect items or temporarily disable enemies.
The game has everything you’d expect from a Banjo-Kazooie title: tons of items to collect like Jiggies and musical notes, funny, nonsensical character voices, and a whole lot of googly eyes!
This game offers a lot for its size and feels great to play. While it’s a relatively short experience, lasting maybe an hour or two, it’s definitely worth checking out if you enjoy Banjo-Kazooie games and are looking for something similar.
We don’t know if Xbox will ever make a new Banjo-Kazooie game, but this shows there’s still a lot of love for the original.
So, the person who made this game, Eupholace, actually made another one called Trip’s Voyage before. And honestly, that game is still amazing – it’s one of the best things you can find in Dreams. It’s a 3D platformer too, and you can definitely see the influence of games like Mario and Banjo-Kazooie in it.
Hey everyone, I’m really curious – is anyone planning on checking out Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania when it comes to Dreams on PlayStation? Let me know what you think in the comments – I’m always looking for new games to play!
