Barbra Streisand will always remember Robert Redford as the way he was.
After learning of the death of her *The Way We Were* co-star at age 89, the actress, who has won two Oscars, shared her memories of their last meeting.
Barbra Streisand recalled on Instagram on September 16th that the last time she saw him, during a lunch date, they talked about art and made plans to share their earliest drawings with each other.
Despite seeing themselves as very different people, they became close friends after playing romantic partners in a 1978 movie, and remained so for many years.
Barbra Streisand, now 83, fondly remembers working on *The Way We Were*, describing each day as thrilling, demanding, and completely enjoyable. She and Robert Redford came from very different backgrounds – he loved horses, while she was allergic – but they were determined to understand each other, much like their characters in the film.
Barbra Streisand described Robert Redford as “charismatic, intelligent, intense, and always interesting-truly one of the greatest actors.” She added that she was thankful for the chance to have worked with him, calling him “one of a kind.”
Robert Redford died at his home in Sundance, Utah, on the morning of September 16th, according to his representative.
It just breaks my heart knowing he went where he was happiest, with all the people he cared about. Honestly, the thought of him gone is just… unbearable. We’re all going to miss him so, so much.
The founder of the Sundance Film Festival was widely loved in Hollywood, and many of his colleagues expressed their sadness upon hearing of his death.

Meryl Streep, who acted with Robert Redford in the 1985 film *Out of Africa*, shared a statement with Deadline saying, “One of the lions is gone. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
Meanwhile, Redford’s frequent collaborator Jane Fonda said the loss has hit her “hard.”
The actress from *Barefoot in the Park* told TopMob News she was heartbroken, saying, “He was a wonderful person and I’m devastated by his loss.”
