As a huge DC fan, I’ve always loved Batman and Superman as a team. What makes them so great isn’t just that they both want to save the world, but how they do it. They approach things from totally different angles, which creates this amazing dynamic – they work together so well, but also challenge each other. Their differences in everything from their powers to their personalities actually make them stronger as a duo, covering for each other’s weaknesses. Honestly, they’re like the best of friends, and watching them inspire each other while fighting crime as the World’s Finest is just incredibly inspiring and exciting!

Batman and Superman are known for their frequent team-ups, and they’ve even merged into one being on occasion. Most recently, in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #46, they combined to fight a team-up of Lex Luthor and the Joker. While this isn’t the first time they’ve done this – it happened as early as issue #4 – it highlights their powerful synergy. This event also brought to mind a previous fusion of the two heroes, one that resulted in a formidable villain: Composite Superman. It makes you wonder if and when we might see that character again.

The One-Man Legion

Joe Meach was a former high diver who had fallen on hard times. He nearly drowned after diving into a leaky pool, but Superman saved his life. Superman then helped Joe get a job at the Superman Museum, but Joe became resentful, constantly reminded of the importance of heroes while feeling invisible himself. Everything changed when lightning struck realistic statues of the Legion of Super-Heroes, transferring their powers to Joe.

This incredible surge of power instantly made him one of the most powerful opponents Batman and Superman had ever faced, and would ever face. He gained the abilities of twenty different Legionnaires, including Lightning Lad’s electrical powers, Saturn Girl’s telepathy, Brainiac 5’s intellect, and Element Lad’s ability to change matter. He also possessed the full range of powers from Supergirl and many others. Using this vast arsenal of abilities, Composite Superman discovered Batman and Superman’s secret identities, then tried to defeat and embarrass them.

Composite Superman was a remarkably powerful villain who initially defeated both Superman and Batman, and they were only saved when his powers unexpectedly disappeared. He consistently overwhelmed the heroic duo in every encounter, remaining undefeated by either strength or strategy. Despite posing a significant threat to the world, he’s surprisingly rarely seen in stories.

Composite Abilities, Rare Apperances

Composite Superman is a powerful villain, but he hasn’t appeared often in DC Comics. The original, Joe Meach, only showed up in a few issues before the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ event. Another villain briefly used the name, and a ghostly version appeared in an old Superman comic. Even after the continuity was reset, a new Composite Superman appeared only to quickly die. He’s a character who simply hasn’t been given enough opportunities to become a well-established villain.

Okay, so this villain, Composite Superman, is ridiculously powerful – we’re talking the strength of an entire superhero army rolled into one being, which explains why he’s so good at avoiding confrontations. But honestly, seeing Batman and Superman willingly merge their powers multiple times has got me thinking… a showdown with Composite Superman would be the ultimate test of their teamwork. It’s the World’s Finest at their absolute peak, going up against someone they’ve never really defeated. More than just a brawl, it’d be a fascinating display of skill versus raw power – proving that even incredible abilities mean nothing without knowing how to wield them effectively. I’m genuinely excited by the potential of this matchup.

Bringing back Composite Superman makes sense right now. If Batman and Superman are merging to become the strongest hero, who better to challenge them than their villainous counterpart?
