Released in 2009, Batman: Arkham Asylum quickly became a classic and has stayed popular ever since. Written by DC Comics veteran Paul Dini, the game brilliantly reimagined the iconic Batman-Joker rivalry as a captivating and immersive action-adventure experience, making it one of the most impressive beginnings for a video game series in recent history.
While the Batman: Arkham trilogy was a big success, Warner Bros. has faced some challenges. Batman: Arkham Origins received mixed reactions, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had a very difficult launch and struggled to gain traction as a live service game. Batman: Arkham Shadow offered a new take on the series, but its virtual reality format limited its reach.
It’s no surprise fans are hoping for a revival! Many people on X are excited about the possibility of a new Batman: Arkham Asylum game, and it looks like it could be a fantastic return to the series.
Arkham Batman Is Officially Back
With A New Look
The new Lego Batman game, launching on May 22nd, will be packed with references to past Batman movies and shows. We’ve already spotted jokes and nods to films like those directed by Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan, as well as the recent 2022 film The Batman. Expect to see plenty of references to Batman comics and TV series too, as the game developers are clearly going all out.
I’m so excited! It’s now official – the new Legacy of the Dark Knight set is going to be a fantastic tribute to the original Batman: Arkham Asylum game. The Batman suit is designed to look like it’s been built directly from LEGO bricks! As LEGO Games News X highlighted, they’ve included all the details – the bat symbol, the little holes in the body, the gauntlets, the belt, and even how the cape covers part of his chest – it’s all integrated to match the game’s look!
I fully expect to see some truly unique and surprising costumes later in the game, similar to what Insomniac does with their Spider-Man games. Get ready for some very specialized and detailed Batsuits! We’ll also probably see more references to the Arkham Asylum games, including updated versions of the suit designs Rocksteady created over the years.
LEGO Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight Looks Outstanding
So Far, It’s A Great Homage Overall
The first trailer for LEGO Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight really impressed Batman fans, and the game has looked promising ever since. Traveller’s Tales is known for successfully adapting various franchises, and they’ve consistently delivered strong Batman games. Now, with access to the full range of Batman characters and settings, they have the potential to create something truly special.
This game, clearly inspired by Batman: Arkham Asylum, demonstrates TT Games and Warner Bros.’ willingness to portray a more intense, though still LEGO-themed, version of Batman. If successful, it could be a fantastic way to introduce players to the wider Batman world.
