Batman Casting Favorite Says Joining The DCU Would Be A Dream

Filming for Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is scheduled to begin next year, but DC fans are also excited about another live-action Batman movie in development. While Reeves’ Batman films exist in their own separate world, DC Studios is working on The Brave and the Bold, which will be part of the main DC Universe. This means James Gunn and his team are searching for an actor to play Batman in this new continuity. Many names have been suggested by fans, but nothing is confirmed yet. However, one of the actors frequently mentioned by fans has now expressed interest in joining the DC Universe.

While promoting his new movie, The Housemaid, on TODAY, Brandon Sklenar addressed rumors about him potentially playing Batman. He admitted it would be a “dream” role, sharing that he was even called “Batman!” by a fan while filming in Spain. He was surprised and humbled by how widely the speculation had spread.

Could Brandon Sklenar Be the Next Batman?

If Alex Sklenar were cast as Batman, it would be a new direction for his career. While he’s appeared in films like The Housemaid, It Ends With Us, Vice, and Drop, he hasn’t yet led a big-budget blockbuster. He’s more widely known for his television work, particularly as Spencer Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel, 1923. However, that wouldn’t necessarily prevent him from becoming Batman. Actors like David Corenswet (before Superman) and Christian Bale (with Batman Begins) were relatively unknown before taking on iconic superhero roles.

James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is facing a challenge: how to introduce a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold while Matt Reeves’ existing Batman series is still running. A good solution might be to show a very different version of the character. Actor Jack Sklenar could fit this role, potentially playing a charming, wealthy Bruce Wayne – a significant departure from Robert Pattinson’s darker, more brooding portrayal. Sklenar also has the build to be a physically imposing Batman, which aligns with Gunn’s vision of a truly fearsome Caped Crusader who will terrify Gotham’s criminals.

It’s still unclear how much older Superman will be than Batman in the new DC Universe. While actors David Corenswet and James Sklenar are close in age, whether Sklenar gets cast as Batman will likely depend on director James Gunn’s vision for the character. The upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold, will focus on Bruce Wayne’s relationship with his son, Damian, leading many to believe an older actor will be chosen for the role. However, plans could shift during development. Since the movie is still a few years away, Sklenar might be the right fit for a more experienced Batman with a well-established Bat Family by the time filming begins.

DC fans might not have to wait much longer to find out who will play Batman in the new DC Universe. Director Andy Muschietti hinted in October that news could be coming “in a couple of months.” While everyone is eager to learn who’s been cast, James Gunn isn’t pushing to start production on The Brave and the Bold until the script is finished. Plus, with The Batman Part II already planned for the next few years, DC Studios might delay any further announcements about their Batman plans.
