We’ve seen a lot of promising games get cancelled lately, particularly those based on superheroes. Warner Bros. decided to stop development on their *Wonder Woman* game, and EA cancelled their *Black Panther* project. It’s good to know that some anticipated games, like Insomniac’s *Wolverine*, are still on track. However, it’s still disappointing to think about what could have been. Recently, a concept artist shared a look at what a cancelled DC game might have looked like, giving fans a glimpse of a lost project.
Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz recently shared some artwork from a cancelled DC game project with fans. Marantz has contributed designs to several DC films, including *Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice* and *Justice League*. His character designs for this unreleased game have generated excitement among fans, with many hoping it might one day be revived.
Bizarro, Batman, and More Could’ve Starred in Snyder-Inspired DC Game
DC video games haven’t been doing as well lately, especially when compared to the popularity of games like *Marvel Rivals* and *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2*. Games such as *Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League* didn’t meet expectations, so it’s understandable that some other DC game projects were cancelled. However, Batman games have traditionally been successful, and this new cancelled game appeared to feature the Caped Crusader alongside some of his most famous enemies.
Recently shared concept art from Marantz revealed a Batman design heavily influenced by Ben Affleck’s portrayal. The art was created for a potential game set in the Arkham universe and depicted an older, more weathered Batman. The suit and Batman’s appearance clearly show signs of age and battle, and the overall style is reminiscent of the look established in Zack Snyder’s films.
Along with the other images, Marantz also showed off some designs for the character Bizarro. It’s unknown whether these designs were for the Batman game or a different DC project, possibly the cancelled Superman game from WB Montreal. Marantz clarified that the game this Bizarro was intended for is no longer in development, so we probably won’t see this version of the character in a game anytime soon. That’s disappointing, because this Bizarro’s design draws inspiration from both the *Superman* animated series and the artwork of Alex Ross, creating a simple yet ideal take on the character as a dark reflection of Superman.
Besides the characters already shown, Marantz also shared concept art from unreleased DC games. This included a frightening take on the villain Parasite, as well as King Shark from the Batman universe. It looks like plans were in motion for either a massive *Batman v. Superman* game, or two separate games featuring popular heroes from the DC Extended Universe. It’s a shame these character designs never made it into a game, but Marantz has hinted he’d be open to revisiting them in the future. So, if Warner Bros. and DC ever decide to create a new game with this group of characters, they know who to contact. Given the ongoing rumors about a new Batman Arkham game, that possibility might come sooner than expected.
