Although there’s a lot of anticipation for the next *Battlefield* game, the series hasn’t always been well-received. The launch of *Battlefield 2042* was a major letdown for many players. Rebecka Coutaz, a lead on the *Battlefield* franchise and manager at EA, recently told Edge magazine (as reported by GamesRadar) about joining DICE after *Battlefield 2042* came out and how the game’s poor reception affected the development team.
As a big Battlefield fan, it was honestly a little sad to hear that even the developers at DICE were disappointed with how *Battlefield 2042* launched. Apparently, they’re really determined to make sure something like that *never* happens again – they don’t want to release a game in that state ever. It’s good to know they’re taking it seriously and learning from what went wrong.
She explained that DICE and the *Battlefield* community had differing expectations, which led the studio to continue developing *Battlefield 2042* in an effort to improve the game. Coutaz emphasized that the current version of the game is significantly different from the one originally released.
We felt a strong responsibility to our long-time players and the community, as they had high hopes for us and our game. We also wanted to deliver for our development teams. After four years of hard work and improvements, the game has evolved significantly since its initial release, and we’re pleased that many players continue to enjoy it.
To build excitement for the upcoming *Battlefield 6*, EA and DICE are releasing a series of updates for *Battlefield 2042*. This plan, called the Road to *Battlefield 6*, began last month with a surprise: the popular map Iwo Jima. Originally featured in the very first *Battlefield* game, *Battlefield 1942*, Iwo Jima has appeared in several installments, most recently in *Battlefield 5*.
The map has been updated for *Battlefield 2042*, with a prominent active volcano serving as a central feature. It also includes classic *Battlefield* elements like boat landings, bunkers, and trenches. Along with the new map, *Battlefield 2042* players can now use the KFS2000 assault rifle and the Lynx sniper rifle. New vehicles have also been added, including the A10 Warthog and the SU-25TM Frogfoot.
To mark the launch of *Battlefield 6* on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 10th, DICE has added a new battle pass to *Battlefield 2042*. This pass lets players unlock rewards inspired by classic *Battlefield* games, including favorites like *Bad Company 2*, *Battlefield 1*, and titles from *Battlefield 3* through *Battlefield 5*. Plus, the *Battlefield 2042* Portal feature is hosting a month-long celebration in September, with fresh game modes and experiences changing every two days.
