Excitedly counting down the days until I dive back into the world of Battlefield 6! The Early Access beta starts on August 7, and on August 9, everyone gets a chance to join in. Recently, EA shared some exciting updates about the game based on feedback from playtests at the Battlefield Labs. They’ve tweaked the maps, redesigned classes, and even introduced an option for Open and Closed weapons within each class – all thanks to your valuable input! Can’t wait to see how these changes shape up the gaming experience!
Initially, when it comes to weapon selection, the difference between Open and Closed weapons revolves around granting in-game characters the freedom to wield virtually any weapon they prefer. Nevertheless, the game intends to encourage players towards making the optimal decision by providing perks, such as a Recon class, for instance, being able to hold their breath longer when using a sniper rifle for precise headshots compared to an Assault character. In the upcoming open beta of Battlefield 6, there will be a Closed Weapon Conquest playlist that offers comprehensive XP advancement. Additionally, players will have the opportunity to enjoy Open Weapons playlists as well.
The video below provides an 8-second glimpse into how the game’s maps have been altered. By examining heat maps generated from player movement and actions during playtests, developers identified areas needing improvement in terms of flow and pace for combat. To address this, they modified some zones and corridors to offer smoother movement and faster skirmishes. Key adjustments made to the maps encompass offering players additional cover options and modifying objective sizes.
It’s worth mentioning that in the updated version of the Domination game mode, players will now have the opportunity to revive their teammates. This feature is a common aspect of traditional Battlefield game modes, and the developers have chosen to incorporate it into Domination as well, aiming to enhance the strategic depth and teamwork aspects of the gameplay.
Changes have been implemented in the game’s assortment of weapons, focusing on factors like time taken to eliminate an opponent (time-to-kill) and time elapsed after being eliminated (time-to-death). Guided by player suggestions, developers are introducing additional weapon customization options and making these customization menus easier to navigate. Moreover, the user interface now offers a clearer depiction of Signature Weapons, enabling players to organize their loadouts according to their classes more efficiently.
The modifications made to four game classes – Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon – have been explained as well. For instance, the Assault class will now have fewer opportunities for self-healing. Instead, their tools will primarily focus on active participation in the frontlines, with equipment such as the Adrenaline Injector now offering resistance to flash and stun effects and increased resilience against explosive and incendiary damage. The Assault class will also gain traits that encourage frontline engagement, like Commanding Presence, which boosts the speed of objective capture for team members in close proximity.
As the beta progresses, Engineers and Support can expect minor adjustments, whereas Recon agents experience a significant change: their Pathfinder training path is being revamped with a fresh Spec Ops training path. This new route brings stealth-focused advantages, such as detecting nearby enemy equipment, quieter stealth kills, and the ability to exit combat more swiftly by assuming a prone position. Additionally, Recon will gain access to the Aim Spotting signature trait, which instantly marks enemies that the class views through their sights.
The new game titled Battlefield 6 is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The initial phase of the beta testing kicks off as a closed event on August 7, expanding access to all players from August 9 until August 10. Following this, a wider open beta will commence on August 14 and continue through August 17.
