Battlefield 6 delays its Season 2 release date for “extra time” to address feedback as its player count falls — it’s making the right call, and I’m glad

Battlefield 6 started strong in October, becoming the best-selling game of 2025. However, player numbers have dropped significantly in recent weeks. This is quite different from ARC Raiders, another popular shooting game that has kept most of its original players for months after its release.

Yesterday, I discussed why I think Battlefield 6 has lost so many players. The main issues seem to be maps that feel too cramped, a lack of new content since launch, a frustrating progression system that feels like a grind, and numerous technical problems.

Players have been very vocal about issues with Battlefield 6 since it launched, and their feedback has been clear. Now, after listening to the community, Battlefield Studios has decided to push back the release of Season 2 – which was previewed with a clip of a soldier wearing a gas mask in a smoky, potentially toxic environment – to February 17th. The studio says this delay will give them more time to improve and finalize the new season.

When Battlefield 6 launched, we promised regular, substantial updates for players. We delivered on that promise in 2025 with a huge Season 1, which included unexpected additions like REDSEC, a conflict with the California Resistance, and the Winter Offensive event. After also releasing several updates to improve the game, we’re now looking forward to what 2026 will bring, according to a recent blog post from the developers.

We’ve been listening to what players have been saying, and to make sure we deliver on our goals, we’ve decided to extend Season 1. This will give us more time to really polish and improve Season 2 before it launches.

On January 27th, developers are adding a “Frostfire” Bonus Path to the Season 1 Battle Pass to give players extra rewards while they wait for Season 2. You’ll be able to earn a weapon bundle, character skin, XP boosts, and other cosmetic items by completing Weekly Challenges – and you can work on this Bonus Path at the same time as the regular Battle Pass.

We’re extending Season 1 with daily rewards and double XP weekends! It’s the perfect time to play Battlefield 6 if you want to quickly level up your weapons and vehicles, or complete any remaining challenges in the Season 1 Battle Pass before Season 2 arrives.

Although it’s disappointing that Battlefield 6 Season 2 is delayed by almost a month, I think Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios are doing the right thing by postponing its release.

The first season received a lot of criticism for not having enough content, and what it did offer wasn’t well-received. Because of this, it’s crucial that the developers get Season 2 right, especially considering the recent drop in players for Battlefield 6. If taking more time will help them deliver a better experience, I’d prefer they delay the season rather than release it prematurely.

Season 1 introduced updates that unfortunately made Battlefield 6’s online performance worse, leading to more players reporting lag and issues with registering hits. By spending more time refining Season 2, the developers hope to fix these existing problems and avoid creating new ones.

Battlefield 6 is now available on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5 for $69.99. Currently, Amazon is offering the Xbox version for a discounted price of $39.97.
