Battlefield 6 developers assuage fears surrounding map sizes as open beta continues — “We have a lot of variety in this package”

Players eagerly anticipating Battlefield 6 can rest assured that they will encounter the extensive map sizes the series is famed for, as confirmed by developers during an interview with CharlieIntel on Twitter. The developers emphasized that Battlefield 6 will offer a diverse range of maps in terms of size, locations, modes, and gameplay styles.

Battlefield 6 launch maps

Initially, Battlefield 6 offers access to just four maps during its beta phase. However, upon its official release, it promises to offer players a selection of no less than nine diverse maps to explore. Here is the complete list:

1. Operation Harvest Thaw
2. Grand Bazaar
3. Hourglass
4. Discarded Convoy
5. Breakaway
6. Manifest Destiny
7. Dust Bowl
8. Devastation of Dubai
9. Kaleidoscope

This should provide a more engaging and expansive gaming experience for all players!

  • Siege of Cairo
  • Iberian Offensive
  • Liberation Peak
  • Empire State
  • Operation Firestorm
  • Saints Quarter
  • New Sobek City
  • Mirak Valley
  • Manhattan Bridge

During the first weekend of its beta testing, maps such as Siege of Cairo, Iberian Offensive, and Liberation Peak were featured. These maps are back for the second weekend, along with the addition of Empire State.

These maps tend to be on the smaller side, providing less space for vehicles, particularly in the case of Iberian Offensive. However, tank battles can still occur in Siege of Cairo. Balancing this variety is quite challenging, and I’m eager to see what kind of post-launch support Battlefield 6 will offer.

This game is a significant endeavor, with several studios contributing to different aspects of the project under Electronic Arts’ banner as “Battlefield Studios.” DICE, known for their work on longtime franchise development, is handling the multiplayer aspect. The single-player campaign is being created by Motive Studio, who are currently developing the Dead Space remake. Ripple Effect is working on a new mode, while Criterion Games is offering support across all aspects of the project.

All the ingredients for potential success

During this past weekend’s beta testing, I managed to join several matches on Saturday. The gameplay was quite enjoyable, with the gunfire and explosion sounds standing out as significantly improved compared to Battlefield 2042 in that aspect.

I plan to complete a few more tasks during the remaining days of the test to secure permanent rewards. So far, I’m quite impressed with what I’ve experienced.

One map that particularly caught my attention was Siege of Cairo. The intense firefights were thrilling whether I was on offense or defense, and there were several heart-stopping moments. I had close calls with grenade explosions, took down enemy squads when they turned a corner, and narrowly escaped as a tank rolled down the street – all within a minute’s time.

This package offers a wide range of options, including diverse game modes, maps, locations, sizes, and various playing styles.

Liberation Peak sounds appealing in concept, offering challenging mountainous landscapes for tactical maneuvers against enemy strongholds. However, the central open areas become a deadly trap, making progression impossible due to their exposed nature, similar to navigating Halo 2’s Earth levels on Legendary difficulty.

I’m not entirely sure how to resolve this issue, but it’s an aspect worth considering.

That being said, the developers still have plenty of other challenges to address. For one, the menus are cumbersome to navigate using a controller. Furthermore, having the firing range integrated into the menu settings results in lower console frame rates (currently 30 FPS) compared to the higher rates achievable in the main game.

Battlefield 6 is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (via EA App, Epic Games Store, and Steam), and PlayStation 5 on October 10, 2025.
