Battlefield 6 devs tease what’s next in Season 2 and 2026, poised to finish this year as its best-selling game — “we’ll keep evolving the experience with you”

Electronic Arts (EA) and Battlefield Studios have had a remarkably successful year. The newest Battlefield game—the latest in the popular, large-scale first-person shooter series—launched in early October and quickly became a hit on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation 5. It boasted hundreds of thousands of players online for weeks and sold 7 million copies in its first weekend.

The game became 2025’s top seller, boosted by updates for Season 1 and the release of the free-to-play Battlefield REDSEC battle royale, which kept players engaged. While sales dipped and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 briefly took the lead in November, it still has a large and dedicated community, and is projected to finish the year as the best-selling game overall.

Battlefield Studios recently shared a community update detailing future plans for the game, including Season 2 and content planned through 2026. With Season 1 expected to finish in mid-January, the update also highlighted interesting player stats and showcased creations from the Portal community, giving players a preview of what’s coming next.

The developers are working on improving the core gameplay, making the game fairer, and adding quality-of-life features to Multiplayer, REDSEC, and Portal. They’re also creating new maps and weapons to offer players more strategic options and keep the game interesting. Plus, they plan to introduce new and unique experiences in future seasons, similar to the limited-time Ice Lock mode from the Winter Offensive.

In addition, Battlefield Studios plans to incorporate testing from Battlefield Labs directly into the main game of Battlefield 6, which currently uses separate versions for playtests. They also aim to launch a solo version of the REDSEC battle royale mode, ensuring it meets Battlefield’s quality standards.

The Little Bird helicopter, known for its speed and minigun, will be returning. Developers hinted at its arrival, saying it’s “eager to say hi again” to players.

No matter what you’re up to – whether it’s between games, traveling to see loved ones, or just relaxing after playing – we want to thank you. Your support during launch, your enthusiasm throughout Season 1, and all the unique experiences you’ve shared have made this year incredible, according to the studio.

We’ve really appreciated your insightful reports and discussions, which have allowed us to improve rapidly and prioritize what’s most important. We look forward to continuing this great teamwork in the new year.

The development team announced they’re taking a break to recharge before the new year and the arrival of 2026, so communication might be a bit slower during this time. However, they want to assure players that support and anti-cheat systems will continue to function without interruption.

The entire Battlefield team wants to thank you for a fantastic year! We wish you happy holidays, and hope to see you back in the game soon. Stay safe!

The developers recently shared a great message with fans, outlining their plans for Battlefield 6 starting in 2026. They’re promising new maps, weapons, and even the return of the popular Little Bird vehicle, along with some brand-new game modes. While I’m not personally interested in the solo battle royale or the REDSEC features, it’s good to know those are also being developed for players who enjoy them.

I’d really like to see Battlefield 6 include an official server browser with servers run by Battlefield Studios, and more visibility for creative maps and modes made by the community through Portal. Hopefully, these features will be added next year.
