Battlefield 6 is Getting a “Full Pass” of its Audio System to Fix Missing Footstep Sounds

Florian Le Bihan, the lead designer for Battlefield 6, has continued the team’s tradition of keeping players informed about upcoming fixes. In a recent post, he announced that Battlefield Studios plans to address audio problems—specifically, players being unable to hear enemy footsteps—by completely overhauling the game’s audio system.

Le Bihan explained that the team is currently testing improvements to the game’s audio. They’re completely overhauling the sound system to address issues, including instances where sounds would abruptly stop playing. He said they’re hoping to release more information about the update soon.

I was so glad to see the dev confirmed they’re not just addressing the big problems! They also acknowledged the mouse sensitivity slider got messed up in the last update – it was only letting us adjust it in big jumps instead of making small, precise changes. Thankfully, they said it’s already being fixed and will be included in the next update. That’s a huge relief!

Hearing enemy footsteps is crucial in competitive multiplayer shooters, whether it’s classic games like Quake 3 Arena or modern titles like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 2, and Battlefield 6. Because audio is sometimes being cut off, developers are planning to overhaul the entire audio system to prevent this from happening. Players have also reported trouble hearing enemy vehicles, and this rework should fix those problems too.

Le Bihan also shared that the team is actively working to resolve the recoil problems in Battlefield 6. They’ve already made some progress, but haven’t completely fixed the issue yet. He explained on social media that it’s a complex problem, but they’re developing improvements that will significantly help until a full fix is available.

Battlefield 6 is currently offering a free trial on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The trial, which runs until December 2nd, lets you experience five of the game’s modes and three of its maps. This announcement came with the release of the California Resistance mid-season update for Battlefield 6 Season 1, which added a new map and a temporary game mode called Sabotage.
