We’ve finally gotten our hands on the new Battlefield game, and it delivers for most fans of the series. It includes everything players love about Battlefield – classic classes, tons of weapons and gear to unlock, powerful vehicles and planes, and a good variety of maps and game types to enjoy it all on.
However, a noticeable omission in the game is naval warfare. Currently, none of the maps in Battlefield 6 feature any boats, amphibious vehicles, or even enough water to make naval combat possible.
Unlike previous Battlefield games such as Battlefield 4, 1, and V, the new game doesn’t include playable ships, boats, or landing craft, or maps designed for them. For example, Battlefield 4 had maps featuring aircraft carriers that teams could battle on and launch from, and included powerful attack boats armed with machine guns and missiles.
It’s disappointing that, like Battlefield 2042, the new Battlefield game doesn’t currently feature naval combat. However, there’s still hope for the future, as recent reports suggest that boats and other naval vehicles are already being worked on for the game.
According to Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, files discovered within the game data for Battlefield 6 included two interesting lines of code.
Game/GlacierMP/Kits/Vehicle_Neutral_Boat_JetSki
Game/GlacierMP/Kits/Vehicle_Neutral_Boat_RHIB
Before its official announcement, Battlefield 6 was known internally at EA and Battlefield Studios as ‘Glacier’ and was being tested privately through Battlefield Labs. ‘MP’ simply stands for multiplayer, and a ‘RHIB’ is a rigid-hulled inflatable boat. A jet ski is exactly what it sounds like.
This suggests that the developers are building two kinds of boats for Battlefield 6’s multiplayer mode, and they might add more in the future.

As a huge Battlefield fan, I was really excited to see some code recently discovered that hints at the possible return of naval combat! It’s awesome because just a couple of weeks ago, the Battlefield team actually said they’d heard us asking for ships and water battles. They promised they were working on making the game what we want, and this datamined code feels like they’re keeping that promise. It’s a really encouraging sign for the future of the game!

This raises the question of when we might see naval combat in Battlefield 6, but right now, there’s no definitive answer. What we *do* know is that it won’t be included in Season 1, which runs from October 28th to December. The official roadmap doesn’t list any seacraft as new vehicles, and none of the three maps planned for the season seem to focus on naval warfare.
Despite this, the discovery of boat-related files within the latest version of Battlefield 6 strongly hints that the developers are currently building them. This could mean we’ll see naval combat introduced in either Season 2 or Season 3 of the game’s updates.

This would be a major release for Battlefield fans in 2026, and I’m personally very excited about it. I especially loved the fast-paced action in Battlefield 4, like maneuvering RHIB boats to transport teammates or destroying tanks and helicopters with powerful offshore missiles.
This addition would fill a key gap in Battlefield 6, potentially elevating it to the level of fan favorites like Battlefield 4 and 1, and solidifying its place as one of the best installments in the series.
I’m really looking forward to naval combat being added to Battlefield 6. Until then, I’m still enjoying the game, which is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 for $69.99. You can find a good deal on the Xbox version at Loaded (formerly CDKeys) for $61.19.
