Battlefield 6 players have devised the most diabolical tactic I’ve ever seen — I’ll never look at landmines the same way again

Battlefield 6 has launched, and players are already exploring all the game’s tools and features to come up with clever new ways to win. It’s a busy week as everyone tests the limits and tries to gain an advantage in matches.

Battlefield players are known for creative, sometimes ridiculous, tactics – like driving a car packed with explosives into an enemy tank or using a glitch to launch themselves across the map. Right now, they’re trying everything imaginable. But one strategy stands out as particularly clever: a tricky combination of Recon drones and landmines.

The Recon class’ scouting drone doesn’t just disable enemy gadgets like the Deploy Beacon – it actually destroys enemy mines and claymores with a quick electrical pulse. This is great because it protects teammates from those traps, but players have also discovered it’s a sneaky way to get some surprising eliminations.

So, I’ve been playing a ton of Battlefield 6, and I stumbled across this crazy bug! Normally, you don’t hurt your teammates with mines because friendly fire is off. But if a drone sets one off, the game thinks it was an enemy mine. It’s… not pretty. Seriously, check out the videos below – it leads to some absolutely wild and hilarious (but also frustrating!) moments of total destruction. You really have to see it to believe it!

There’s a lot of potential for clever trickery in this situation. Skilled Recon players who control their drones well can set traps with mines and claymores, then destroy enemy Engineers – and unfortunately, sometimes even their own teammates and vehicles caught in the blast.

With the recent release of Battlefield 6, and mines being a standard starting tool for the Engineer class, many maps are currently covered in them. This makes using mines a very powerful strategy right now, and it’s likely to stay that way until players unlock more options and tools.

Even so, this will still be a valuable part of the Recon’s equipment, something to remember and use if the enemy starts using too many mines.

As someone who loves playing Battlefield with vehicles – I always jump into a tank or infantry fighting vehicle when I can – I’m honestly a little scared by the new drones. They’ve made me completely rethink how I approach combat, because even a friendly minefield now feels like a serious threat that could destroy my vehicle at any time.

Whenever I have a free moment, I’m instantly on high alert, prepared to destroy any drones I spot with my machine gun before they can blow up and wreck my vehicle.

However, I don’t believe this is too strong. It actually introduces an interesting new element to Battlefield’s gameplay. It encourages players to watch out for enemy drones, and it makes Engineers think more carefully about mine placement. Plus, Recon players now have a way to damage vehicles without needing to play as an Engineer, and they can contribute to large battles even when they’re not sniping.

Honestly, I’m optimistic about this new feature for Battlefield, but it’s still super early days. Right now, every match feels like everyone is just laying down mines because they’re still figuring out what other gadgets to use. Once that initial phase passes and people start mixing things up, we can *really* start talking about whether the drone is balanced properly. I think it has potential, but we need to see how things settle down first.

I don’t believe this is too strong at all. In fact, it seems like a really interesting new element that enhances the gameplay of Battlefield. Overall, I expect it will be a positive change for the game, but it’s still too soon to know for certain.

Unfortunately, fixing this could take some time. A major problem at launch is that the Assignments – the challenges needed to unlock new items – aren’t working correctly for a lot of players. Plus, many of these challenges are surprisingly hard, making them frustrating to complete.

Even with some initial issues, players are really enjoying Battlefield 6. It’s a fantastic game and a major step forward for the series, especially after the problems with Battlefield 2042. You can find it on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5 for $69.99. However, Loaded (formerly CDKeys) is offering the Xbox version for $61.19, and the more expensive Phantom Edition for $81.59.
