Battlefield 6 Season 2 is Bringing Back Fan-Favourite Battlefield 4 Map Golmud Railway

Battlefield Studios announced how it will test the second season of Battlefield 6 with the help of its community. The first major playtest, using the Battlefield Labs feature, will focus on the new ‘Contaminated’ map. During these tests, developers will gather feedback on different parts of the gameplay, including how tanks and planes work alongside soldiers on foot, and whether there’s enough cover available on the map.

The upcoming map, Contaminated, will introduce a new gameplay feature that needs thorough testing. Players will also have specific tools to use with this feature. Though details are limited, the Season 2 trailer showed a soldier in a gas mask, hinting at how this new mechanic might work and connecting to the map’s name.

In addition to testing a new map, upcoming Battlefield Labs sessions will explore gameplay changes, including the addition of the AH-6 Little Bird helicopter, which is scheduled to be released in Season 2.

In the future, we plan to do more testing on how aircraft and vehicles fight. This will include early tests of the Aircraft Radar system, which is a key part of flying gameplay and something we’re working on to make air combat even better, the developers said.

These playtests will help us assess improvements to key aspects of Battlefield 6, including how accurately shots land and how consistently the combat feels. According to lead producer David Sirland, these problems rarely have just one cause.

He explained that these problems aren’t usually caused by one simple thing. Fixing them typically involves making small improvements across several different systems, doing a lot of testing, and then carefully checking those improvements work well when used by a large number of people.

Season 2 of Battlefield 6 will include the popular Golmud Railway map, originally from Battlefield 4. Before it’s released, the developers at Battlefield Studios will test it through Battlefield Labs. This won’t just be a copy of the old map, though; it’s a complete rebuild designed to work better with Battlefield 6’s combined arms gameplay and other features.

The developers are also updating the battle royale mode in Battlefield: RedSec. They’re currently exploring how to best integrate solo play with the game’s focus on squad-based combat. While specific changes haven’t been announced, the team plans to focus on testing and gathering data to refine the experience.

Earlier this month, Battlefield Studios shared a sneak peek at the upcoming second season of Battlefield 6. They also announced that the release date has been moved from January 20th to February 17th. The developers explained they needed extra time to polish gameplay and incorporate feedback from players.

Both Battlefield 6 and Battlefield: RedSec can be played on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can find more information, including our analysis of the game’s declining player numbers, by clicking here.
