Following the release of Battlefield 6‘s Season 2, producers Phil Girette and Kit Eklof discussed the game’s update schedule. They explained that while extending Season 1 disrupted the flow for some players, the extra development time was necessary to ensure Season 2 was fully polished and would attract players back to the game. They shared these details in a recent interview with TechRadar.
We successfully launched Battlefield 6 and were pleased with how smoothly it went. However, extending Season 1 disrupted the game’s momentum. Players were engaged, but the extension slowed things down. We realized the content planned for Season 2 needed more development time to be fully polished before release, according to Girette.
Season 2 is a significant upgrade from Season 1. We’ve added new maps that we’re really excited about, along with fresh gameplay features. Fan-favorite vehicles, like the Little Bird, are returning, and we’re also introducing a completely new element called REDSEC.
Eklof discussed plans for Season 2 to win back Battlefield players, explaining that they’re incorporating many core elements that define what Battlefield is all about into Battlefield 6.
Later in the interview, Girette explained that Season 2 of Battlefield 6 is designed to be a strong base for all future updates. He believes this season will be the best one released for the game so far.
He wondered if any Battlefield season had ever been truly perfect. The team agreed that Season 2 was exceptionally strong and they want to build on it for future seasons – setting it as the standard they need to achieve. They’re hoping players will feel the same way, believing it’s their best season so far.
Girette explained that the release of Season 2 was delayed to ensure a successful launch for Battlefield 6. This meant postponing future content so the team could fully polish everything before release.
Girette explained that while the launch of Battlefield 6 wasn’t always smooth in the past, this time it went well, which they were pleased about. However, creating a launch takes significant effort, and they decided to delay the content originally planned for Season 2 to allow for more refinement and ensure it met player expectations.
Girette explained that because Season 2 was delayed, the teams working on Battlefield games have been collaborating more closely to make sure future seasons are released on schedule.
