Battlefield 6 Season 2’s Progression, Weapon Balance and Player Movement Improvements Detailed

With the February 17th launch of Battlefield 6 Season 2 fast approaching, the team at Battlefield Studios has shared an update with players. The update details upcoming improvements to the game, including how players will progress, how weapons will perform, and how characters move. These are just some of the changes coming in the new season.

Battlefield 6 will make it easier to progress by simplifying challenges and focusing less on challenges tied to specific game modes. They’re also removing the daily sidearm challenge and broadening what counts as an assist for Daily Challenges. Earning rewards in the Battle Pass will be faster, as players will gain Battle Pass Tokens more quickly through Career XP. Finally, Battlefield: REDSEC players will level up faster thanks to increased Career XP and Weapon XP gains.

We’ve made improvements to how weapons handle, ensuring recoil is consistent for more reliable performance. Automatic weapons now feel unique at different ranges. Player movement is also being improved with smoother acceleration, vaulting, and ladder climbs. We’ve fixed visual glitches and other issues to make movement feel more predictable, especially during close-quarters fights.

Battlefield 6 and Battlefield: REDSEC will receive improved audio, making it easier to hear important sounds like player movement and actions. The game will also better manage overlapping sounds, helping players stay aware of their surroundings and avoid being surprised by enemies.

Beyond the upcoming Season 2 launch for Battlefield 6, the developers at Battlefield Studios want to remind players how important playtesting is through Battlefield Labs. They’ve recently used Labs to test the Contaminated map, which will be part of Season 2, and upcoming tests will focus on adjusting how quickly players can eliminate each other. Battlefield Labs has also begun testing another large map coming in Season 2 – Golmud Railway.

The developers reported that players are responding well to the new playspace, especially its size and how easily players can navigate it. Feedback indicates the map feels both recognizable and fresh, with particular praise for the updated northern town and the improved cover, which makes it easier for infantry to move around and fight.

In Battlefield: REDSEC, Vehicle Keycards will now have a cooldown period. Battlefield Studios explained this change is to prevent one team from dominating with too many tanks at once. While it will be harder to quickly get multiple tanks, Vehicle Keycards will still be valuable, as tanks remain important for success in the battle royale mode.

The second season for Battlefield 6 is starting soon, and the developers at Battlefield Studios just released a trailer introducing the story behind the new Contaminated map. The trailer shows the Pax Armata taking control of an old Cold War base, and NATO preparing to reclaim it. Fighting will be even more challenging because the map is filled with dangerous gas, meaning players will need to use gas masks to survive.

Battlefield 6 is playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Since launching in October, it has become the top-selling game in the US for the year 2025.
