Battlefield 6 Server Browser & XP Progression Explained

We’ve had a chance to preview how the server browser will function in *Battlefield 6*. With the game launching in just two weeks, there’s been a lot of news lately! I recently played through the single-player campaign and got a feel for what the developers have created for fans of that mode. I also previewed the game’s largest map last week, which gave me a good idea of the level variety we can expect. EA is doing a great job keeping players informed and excited, and it seems to be paying off.

Many players are curious about how the server browser will work in *Battlefield 6*’s multiplayer. Specifically, they want to know if playing on these servers will award full experience points and progression, whether official servers will be available, and if servers will remain active over time. These are important questions that will impact how enjoyable and long-lasting *Battlefield 6* will be. Luckily, I have answers to address these concerns!

Battlefield 6‘s Server Browser Explained

I recently got a preview of Battlefield Portal, a new feature in *Battlefield 6*. A lot of people are interested in how server browsing works, and I’m happy to share that *Battlefield 6* does have a server browser built into Battlefield Portal. Unlike in *2042*, it’s easy to find – it will be right on the main menu. This means you can quickly jump into the game type you want, or even create your own custom experience.

If you own a copy of *Battlefield 6*, you’ll be able to create and host your own dedicated server. You’ll have full control over the rules and which maps are played, and it will stay online even when you’re not playing. This means there will always be a lot of servers available for players, ensuring a consistent online experience.

Good news if you want to level up and unlock content in *Battlefield 6* using Portal! You’ll be able to make progress on any server. Servers offering a classic Battlefield experience with minor tweaks, like 24/7 Rush, will give you full XP and progression – just like a standard match. There are no limitations. However, things are a little different for servers with more unusual or custom game modes.

If you join a server with unique, customized rules – something outside the usual Battlefield experience, like one focused on parkour or player-made challenges – you’ll still earn experience points (XP), but in a slightly different way. Instead of getting XP for kills or completing objectives, you’ll earn it based on how long you play. To avoid confusion, Battlefield Studios will clearly label each server in the server browser, so you’ll know how XP is earned before you join and won’t be surprised.

One of the biggest questions remaining is whether the game will have official servers listed in the server browser. These are important because they prevent players from kicking others to make room for their friends, ensuring a better experience for everyone. While I couldn’t get a firm answer, the developers have said they’ll share more information before the game launches. It’s clear they’re paying attention to player feedback about the server browser, and if enough people ask for official servers, they might be added even if they aren’t available at first.

Battlefield 6 will release on October 10th for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
